'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Villa Fans Ain't See Nothing Yet

Martin O'Neill has again said that the Villa fans have yet to see the best of Stiliyan Petrov following his 6.5million transfer from Celtic.

O'Neill said: 'Stiliyan started brilliantly for us - as I was expecting - and did ever so well in the games early on against West Ham and Watford amongst others. That is the kind of form he would generally show pretty consistently. That's what I expect of him. He had a bit of a lull after that good start - but he is coming back.'

'He had a bit of a hamstring problem after being excellent for us in the win at Everton and, when he came back against Middlesbrough the weekend before last, it was pretty tight during the game. Psychologically people do concern themselves coming back after a hamstring problem but that game did him the world of good. He is getting there for us and will be a big asset for this club.'

Adding: 'I've got no problems with him. Yes, I would have expected him to have scored a goal or two by now but that will come. To score a goal or two will give him a natural boost of confidence - but he is not short of confidence. People have to adapt to the Premiership and Stiliyan is such a character that I would expect him to adapt very quickly - and he will do. We've seen glimpses of what he is capable of doing and he will hit that consistently when everything is right.'

I hope he improves. Ability is there for all to see but you need to be consistant in this division if you want to be the best. Players like Lampard and Gerrard probably have about 3 poor games all season. Stan has had double that already.

I do not think Stan has had poor games, but I do believe he has not performed as well as he did in the first game against West Sham. In recent games he has had many shots saved, has hit the bar, won us penalties. He has done reasonably well. However for us to move on a gear, he also needs to as well. I am certain when his first goal goes in, we will really start to see one of the best midfielders in the country.
voiceoftheholte
they should just let him take the nexy penalty just to get him started

I dont for one minute dispute a word that MON has uttered concerning Stan Petrov. The guy looks quality, and to me his signing was well worth every single penny we paid for him. He will come to the fore more, as better quality players are introduced around him.

Big boots to fill, the last true playmaker was magic merse. Petrov's debut was magnificent, so he has it in him, he'll do the business in the end, he has to for the transfer fee.
The Fear
glensider spot on,couldnt of put it any better myself.its obvious petrovs quality will shine through even more when we get more quality alongside him.early days yet though i do think we will see petrov become one of villa's best ever creative midfielders when he gets more acclimatised to the premiership.
Belfast Villain
I want to believe all that. Good Idea maybe he should be allowed to take 1 penalty so he can get a goal
Christo
its going to be a difference for him though, even though scotland is just up the road, the prem is a different kettle of fish. as soon as he's up to speed, he'll be class

So welcome to the Stan fan club, agreed on all points apart from the pen, IMO scoring from a pen and from open play are completely different when it comes to confidence on the field, he will bang one in soon enough and then we will see what he is all about. UTV

I thin Petrov has played Ok so far, and hopefully we will see more from him when we get better quality around him

With the gulf between Scottish football and ours it was always going to take time to adapt, but once settled i think we might have a class midfielder.

Must remember too that Petrov is playing in a struggling side, something he's not been used to. On top of getting to grips with the English game, thats a lot to come to terms with.
