USA Defender Targetted?

A snippet in the Daily Star (yes, I know) claims that a host of Premiership clubs are chasing Standard Liege defender Oguchi Onyewu. Aston Villa, they claim, are in pole position for the £2million rated player. They also name Fulham and Wigan...... which is nice!

The 24-year-old USA international defender has played 17 times for his country and has also played for Metz and La Louviere.

Makes sense for us to target an American, if they are good enough (obviously) as the marketing side of things would bring in extra interest stateside and therefore more revenue.

Robbie Keane was also said to be a major target but the Spurs striker has just picked up a medial ligament injury and could be out of action for over a month.

Another reported target, this time Watford's 21-year-old striker Ashley Young has promised he won't walk out on the Hornets if they are relegated.

'I have been at Watford since I was 10 years old, and this is where I want to be. Watford look to develop young players. People ask if I need to be at a different club to get into the England senior side, but I have managed to get into the Under-21s while playing for Watford. Would I have a problem staying here if we were in the Championship? No. If you have what we have here, you do not need to go anywhere.'

Would I have a problem staying here if we were in the Championship? Would you have a problem moving to Aston Villa for £30,000 a week and getting set up for life. The opportunity to join the VILLA revolution.

I think we got linked to that American defender during DOL's tenure too, so I wouldn't take too much notice.

Cant understand why we'd be in the market for another central defender, which I believe Onyewu is, but whatever MON sees fit to do is perfectly fine with me.

he's a big, strong defender but also very mobile and quick, as well as being young - he also plays at right-back, so I can see why he might be a decent buy

As an American myself I would love to see an American player on this club. He would fit in nicely at right-back. He has all the tools, just needs the experience and training.

Admit that a quality right back is very definitely needed. A top priority.
