Martin O'Neill on Randy Lerner
Martin O'Neill has spoken about his meeting this week with Villa's new owner Randy Lerner and says the American is here 'for the long term'.
'I've had a chat with Randy and we've discussed a number of issues. I'm not going into any details but he is committed to Aston Villa and he's in this for the long term as well.'
Adding 'He is pretty quiet. It has been a decent thing as well because he has not been in the newspapers boasting about what he is going to do. In fact, it has been the opposite. He is a 'doer' of things rather than a 'sayer' of things and I've been pretty impressed with him and the Villa fans have taken to him and rightly so.
He will show his intentions in the football club in the next couple of seasons.'

Saw Doug before the Citeh game. He was having difficulty parking the new Presidential Chrysler and working out the locking system. Asked him if the Rolls was on ebay and he told me it had been traded in for the US gas-guzzler. "I don't like the new car at all" he said. "It's not as good as the Rolls Royce." Difficult times in the Ellis household, eh ?

you have to pity him really, must be rough trading in the rolls and with only £21m he'll not have the money to buy another! ;-p

Spend it wisely. Invest in players only what we can afford. Build the infrastructure. The rest will follow. Probably not this year, maybe not the next. Hopefully the season after. Anything before is a bonus.

Sorry mate I don't think so! MON will be at Villa until he retires and he'll become a Villa legend. In 20 years, there'll be a statue of him in front of the Holte (to rival the one of JP in the toilets I'm sure!)

It was interesting to see Magnusson at West Ham, on the pitch before the game and proclaiming he'd always been a West Ham fan etc etc. Randy and the board have done everything properly and with a lot of dignity. Fair play

I think that when you talk about foreign ownership of premiership clubs, is it good for the game etc etc., we can only really look at our own situation. We undoubtedly have the very best of the overseas owners/investors here at VP, and for us the future under these guys looks extremely bright indeed.
