Barry Says Team Will Respond

Villa skipper Gareth Barry went in the referees book once again and picked up his fifth yellow card of the season and will therefore serve a one match suspension missing the trip to Sheffield United. Hey John Gregory, Barry is getting his shorts more than dirty these days, he's a star!

Meanwhile Barry said the team will bounce back from last nights poor show against Manchester City.

'We've shown we can bounce back before.' Adding 'City set the tempo and we didn't play like a team in the top-five of the Premiership. I don't know what it was. This time it has caught up with us and conceding two early goals hurt us. The manager knows what is required and we have to look at what has gone wrong and go from there. This is more disappointing than when we lost to Liverpool last month, because this time we didn't play well. The good thing is that we know we can bounce back. We did it after Liverpool and now we must get this out of our system and concentrate on our next match.'

Next up a trip to high flying Portsmouth this weekend.

I like Barry he is the shinning light at Villa and should be the first name on the team sheet every week, as I'm sure he is. He should be in the England squad every time. However talk is cheap and I would prefer the players to get nasty and get on with it against Pompey, on Saturday, then talk constantly about it. This is the acid test when we see what players can cut the mustard and deserve to be at VP when the Lerner evolution kicks in and he gets his MBNA MasterCard out in January.

Another draw anyone, after the city result? Anything from the pompy game would be a bonus, they will be looking to turn Villa over and get their own team back on the road.

Spot on Still Skeggy. The one thing you can guarantee after a reverse is a lot of talk about 'bouncing back' and 'getting it back together'. I know that often players are just responding to endless questions from brain dead reporters (Mr Fear excluded of course) but it is boring and begs the question: OK so what happened in the last game?

Talk on the pitch, too right. Where is the acid test Skeggy, might have a go at that?!
The Fear
Fear - dont do the acid test, the washin machine will talk to you and allsorts (including liquorice).

Gareth has been an excellent choice as captain, added to which his performances have been inspiring. I get the distinct impression that Wednesday nights mauling hurt him, and that he's left his colleagues well aware of what he expects down on the south coast tomorrow. Obviously I'm hoping for a three pointer, but feel that we're going to have our work cut out. Got to keep a very close watch on Lua Lua. He lead us on a bit of a dance last season, and the goal he scored for them was top drawer.

Shame he's picked up 5 bookings already. As our best player and captain, hopefully he will now cut out any rash challenges and keep his discipline because we can't afford to have him out!
Tierney
We have to respond and pick ourselves up. The campaign can go either way right now.
