Reports are suggesting that young Northern Ireland international midfielder Steven Davis is set to sign a new 'double your money' deal on Monday to stay on at Aston Villa.
With the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal keeping a close eye on the emerging talent, Villa have moved quickly (now how many times do us Villa fans say that?!?!) to tie the youngster to a long term deal.
Davis has added goals to his game this season and is currently our highest scorer although with our strike rate, that isn't exactly saying much He has five in all competitions - three in the Premiership.
O'Leary said: 'I think his agent is meeting the chairman and Steve Stride on Monday to iron out a contract and hopefully that will go well. The player wants to sign here, he's looking for more money - quite rightly so - and the player has told me he wants his agent to conclude the deal for him on Monday.'
Ellis said 'Steven has been offered an excellent contract. I wouldn't divulge what he is on now but it is more than double that. I've told him that I know I can look after him as long as he continues to play well. I have made an exception with him in terms of the new offer. I don't usually do that until a player is into the last 18 months of their contract. We are doing all we can to keep him. I would say that he is going nowhere but that would make it seem as if I was issuing a challenge and that is not the case.'
Ellis has also confirmed that he doesn't know how to run a Premiership club by admitting all Villa can do in the January transfer window is bring in loan signings!
