'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Olof Mellberg Voted The Best

Vital Villa asked who was the best Villa defender over the last 10 years, as suggested by Deanovilla.

No shocks really, the bearded wonder Olof Mellberg got 56% of the votes.

Next up was Gareth Southgate who returns with Boro as manager tomorrow, with 31%. Gareth apparently got so fed up whilst at Villa the players used to ask, Q: 'how do you leave Villa?' A: Through the southgate.

Steve Staunton got 5%

Ugo Ehiogu 4%

Liam Ridgewell got 3% but hopefully as part of our future, he'll poll higher in future years as will Gary Cahill and with injury luck Martin Laursen.

Alpay got 1%, no further comment needed.

I would have thought Stan would have done better and what about Sean Teale, he I thought would have poled well
irish villa
who is the nutter who voted for alpay

Used to like the joke where you would say to a group of Villa fans in the pub, "who was that Turkish bloke who used to play in defence for us"? Somebody would always shout up "Alpay". And you would say "thats nice, I'll have a Carling please'. Went to VP today for the "GOD" book signing. There were hundreds queueing up and that was after he had been there for 45 minutes. It would be interesting to see if anybody thinks that there was a better defender to ever where the claret and blue?

Not in my eyes voth, if only we could have cloned him. for my love of Villa and the Guiness shares.

It had to be Olof. The consistant quality of his performances, his loyalty to the claret and blue cause, and his dislike of all things Birmingham City meant there could only be one winner.

With hopefully a few more seasons left in him too, thats the good part. Great signing.
