Villa Hero In The Making?

Fans hero's often come from out of nowhere, some are goalscorers, there's the odd midfield player and of course that defender.

Some join the club early, rarely do you get one in the second or twilight of his playing career although there is certainly one other notable exception.

Players join from other clubs, obviously, rarely if ever do we get heroes from our neighbours, few players ever make the transition our way, and if they do, they even more rarely do it well. So here we have a player well into his twilight years, unfit, been injured and on a free from Birmingham City FC, a hero in the making you have to be joking, what a laugh, get real.

Anyone care to bet against it ?

Certainly not me, I'm convinced already.

All Sutton needs to do is keep relatively injury free and he's going to become a real hero. Villa fans love swashbuckling centre forwards, we love skilful players, we love our heroes with a sense of presence and humour.

Not convinced when O'Neill bailed him out, not convinced by his lack of fitness, not convinced by his recent past performances at other clubs, not happy with the prospect of target man football, I doubted.

But from Liverpool on the signs have been good, the way he looked when subbed against Everton, said it all, no player could have ever given more. That allied to some of the most beautiful nicks and reverse passes, I've seen in years and I'm converted.

What's more I want to see more, I can't wait to see what he'll do next, and that's the sign of real quality.

Bring it on son prove me right

I have often disagreed with your pessism avfv48. However this article is right on the money. We've got Chrissy Chrissy Sutton in the air, in the air ...........

good article, to say im surprised by how Sutton has played is an understatement. 2 assists and a goal is first 3-4 games is excellent. He's a very clever player, holds the ball up well and picks the right passes. Angel already tooks like he's learnt a few things from him. Shame about the pace but it obviously isnt effecting his game too much, keep it up!

It's shows how good a manager we have, he didnt do it for the scum last season, the day we signed him i forgave him for the goal against us and i think he's doing enough to win everybody round now. utv

Spot on avfc48 I am sure you have echoed the thoughts of many, and exactly what we need, more positive fans like you, and you must admit, feels kinda good don't it. : )

i know we cant see the original article, but all of the detractors who posted that he was a bluenose when it was announced on here that he'd be a villain should be named and shamed! He's a class act and he shouldn't be chastised for who he used to play for. after all, you wouldn't call spinksy a bluenose if you saw him in the street would you ?

Fair play to the fella but at his age you wonder if he has time to really cement hero status....maybe gabby will take that challenge up.

The closest I've seen to Peter Withe, since Peter Withe himself. Ironic somewhat that both Messrs Withe and Sutton should blemish their record with a stint at St Andrews, only to re-discover themselves (Withe via The City Ground and St James Park of course) at Birmingham B6. Peter became a Villa Park legend, the final piece in the Ron Saunders jig-saw that saw us lift the Football League Championship trophy, followed twelve months later by The European Champions Cup. If big Chris can stay fit and active, maybe sometime down the road we'll be talking about him in the same glowing terms that are still heaped on Withe. A tremendous signing by Martin O'Neill.

I do remember TuBBz saying that 'until he scores 20 goals a season, he will not be able to say his name without spitting after'. It would be interesting to hear his comments now. Any chance TuBBz??

I have been very impressed with Sutton, he is a clever player and if his fitness can be maintained I see him as more than a "stop gap" until January

For Sutton do become a hero he needs two things. 1 goals and 2 silverware (or at least a CL spot). If we get 4th this year on the back of his forward play then I think you'll see quite a few shirts with Sutton on the back next season.

Keeping him fit will definitely be the key. We still need two strikers to come onboard when the new year window opens, but Big Chris provides us with options and alternatives.
