'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Milan Baros Is Low On Confidence

Martin O'Neill is hoping that Milan Baros will get some match time on international duty tonight having been benched at Villa for the last few games.

'Milan is away with the Czech Republic, so hopefully he'll play in the game. I want another two months of football before I make a genuine and concerted judgement on the players here - and that's on players who have played pretty well often. You can imagine how less informed I'd be on those who would have played less. Once I make my mind up I may stick with it but at the moment, I'm deliberating. So I'm not going to be making big rash judgements here for another couple of months when I will have definitely known the strengths and weaknesses of everybody in the squad.'

'There's no doubt that if Milan can get back, he should be a big asset for us. Eventually, it's up to the player. We have a new fitness scheme but no matter what you do, it is down to the player eventually. You can encourage, you can cajole but eventually the player is going to have to perform on the pitch. He's obviously cost the club a sizeable amount of money, come with a biggish reputation and has scored goals in international football. Maybe he thought it'd be easier for him to adapt.'

Adding, 'Football is not like that, it's difficult. It's not as difficult if you've got loads of ability, you're fit and fresh and raring to go and have confidence but Milan's confidence isn't as great as he'd want at the moment. I'm going to reserve judgment on a few things for a bit longer.'

Reading between the lines, I don't think he is very impressed thus far is he?

Last season I was impressed, he didnt do it in every game but still scored some important goals that's why this is painful because he should be banging a few goals in to clinch that 4th place. I think give him till the transfer window.

i really cant see that sort of player in a MON team, so it wouldnt surprise me if he leaves in the next 12 months.

he should go, there's better players out there. that and there's too many headbands upfront.

Even Milan's biggest supporter wouldn't argue that he's struggling at the minute, for whatever reason. Only he himself knows whether he's hankering for pastures new, or whether he's just purely and simply way out of form, and lets face it that will happen at times even to the very best. I hope he comes good again, and I hope he sees his future at Villa Park. A Milan Baros firing on all cylinders could be the difference between European qualification this season, and missing out.

Only a few months ago Milan Baros thought he was too good for Aston Villa. How quickly things change!!!

agreed Glen but he just does not seem to be with it so far, not chasing the ball down, seems slow, would say lacking in motavation but dont understand that with the chance he has to impress MON and be part of a team thats going places. time will tell, but have a feeling that his is running out. UTV

I really thought he'd hit form soon, but the way he is i see no hope...I mean the name Milan Baros makes you think wow, big name we have to keep him...but i think its time to see im out, Id be most happy with Defoe replacing him.

He just wants out - and doesn't want Villa asking too much for him - hence the 'dip in form'

At least he scored last night, so his confidence is returning. Not a big fan of him though.
