Gareth Barry Close To Villa Return

Gareth Barry Close To Villa Return

Martin O'Neill is hoping inspirational Villa captain Gareth Barry will be able to return to the team for the away game against Wigan this Sunday (1.30, televised by Sky Sports). His return is doubly important as Villa will be missing Gavin McCann who is a very naughty boy and misses the game due to a one match suspension. He'll remain at Villa Park writing lines one would presume.

O'Neill said: 'The physio came in to tell me this morning how he is. He is still a bit sore, but we have a week. The mere fact that he even tried to get fit on Friday just shows you. But we are hoping he'll be okay by the time the game comes around.'

Hope Gareth does return at Wigan. He's a very influential and inspiring player, and his return to captain the side will help in some way to compensate for the loss of Gavin. Wigan, another team we 'owe' for last seasons reversals. Be another tough game though.

Surely an England recall has to be on the cards? Or is McClaren as dumb and stupid as they say.
