Petrov - The Best Still To Come

Martin O'Neill has said that Villa fans have yet to see the best of new signing Stiliyan Petrov.

Martin O'Neill told the official site: 'The performances against West Ham and Chelsea in the league showed us what Stiliyan can do - they're big sides and they were big games.'

Adding: 'I think he is just settling in and once he gets his bearings here he will be absolutely fine. He knows himself. He will surge back again. For the sort of level that he has set himself, he will want to get back to that as quickly as possible. I feel at sometimes in the game, my own view is that, I think he is passing it rather too easily rather than bursting forward with the ball which is his strength.'

'I am all for keeping things simple for a while, but if he bursts into their half then I feel he could go a wee bit further because I know he is capable of doing it.'

I must admit his debut was stunning, he was sooooo close to chipping the Hammers keeper and it would have right royally topped a great debut where he as good as bossed the game. He hasn't looked quite the same since but I'm sure, as he has shown what he can do, he'll get there!

Think he needs a goal to settle him down and then we'll see the best of him. No doubt he's a quality player

It's obvious to anyone with eyes that Petrov is a very skillful classy player. Give him time and he'll grow in stature as a top premiership player, no doubt about it.

When the team plays Petrov plays well, i think in a 3-5-2 formation with him bursting forwards we'd see the best of him.

He'll be the cornerstone of any success we achieve over the next few seasons. It was always going to take time for him to settle. He'll do fine. A class act.

Once he's got his first goal, as has been mentioned, I think he'll be flying!

Was a good buy for you guys! Pompey had been trying for 18 months. has been a BIG factor in your good form!!

I'm glad we landed him. Twelve months ago, a player of his calibre wouldn't have looked at us twice.
