'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Villa Times - 7/11/2006

Unoial Villa News...

Great news... well I think it is anyway, that said, I don't get out much! Anyway, General Charles Krulak has agreed to do an 'interview' with Vital Villa. In all seriousness, the Dennis Mortimer interview* a while back was such a success that I'm delighted we have someone else who has agreed to take a grilling! It isn't everyday you get a General on the sites after-all. Full article + link to the Dennis Mortimer interview: Click Here

Martin O'Neill says that Villa are keeping a close eye on Lee Hendrie and admits there is a 24 hour re-call clause in his contract with Stoke. O'Neill said: 'We've got an instant recall clause now and I'm much happier about that. He's gone and got fit, and played well, and we are monitoring him closely.' Full article + poll as below: Click Here

Vital Villa asked if we should recall Hendrie, 46% said yes, 10% said not yet, 16% thought he should see out his loan until January, 24% said he shouldn't be re-called and thought he should be sold, 4% were unsure.

Martin O'Neill says it is a tall order BUT Villa can cause a cup upset against Chelsea on Wednesday night. Full quotes: Fighting talk from O'Neill ()

QPR have slapped on a 10million price tag on reported Villa target Lee Cook. QPR's chairman, Gianni Paladini, told the Kilburn Times that the 24-year-old winger won't be sold on the cheap. Full quotes: Click Here

Jlloyd Samuel is back in training and targeting a Christmas return. The full back said: 'It's great to be back with the rest of the lads, after spending so much time in the gym on my own. I'm not feeling any pain now and I would say I'm almost back to full fitness. It would be great to be back in the Premiership by Christmas but I will have to work hard to win my place back.' Vital Villa asked which player you would most like to see playing for Villa now. Paul McGrath won with 64%, David Platt got 15%, Sid Cowan's 11%, Dennis Mortimer 5%, Charlie Aitken 3% and Jimmy Rimmer 2%. Full article + brief summary of players: Click Here

Liam Ridgewell has resumed training today following his illness over the weekend that meant he had to miss the game v Blackburn. Ridge had been an ever present but will he be able to walk straight back into the team after Martin Laursen pulled off a man of the match performance? Maybe Ridgewell will be put on the left and Wilfred Bouma gets dropped to the bench? All questions and no answers!

Gareth Barry says he is looking to add to his five goals so far this season adding: 'I thought about the one I missed against Leicester and obviously you want to learn from your mistakes. I thought I'd go back to square-one and once I saw him move, it was straight down the middle. As he went down he tried to get back, but he couldn't. I'm delighted to have five goals on the board by early November. A lot can happen yet this season, but hopefully I can keep the goals coming. Full article: Click Here

Oooahhh Paul McGrath, known as God by Villa fans, will make an appearance at the Villa Village on Friday November 24th to sign his new book Back From The Brink. McGrath, who had a heroes reception at half time during the Fulham game, had hundreds of fans turn up to his signing session at the Villa shop in Birmingham and will now make a return to his footballing home for more adulation!

Villa new boy Chris Sutton says he is 'delighted' that he has signed for the mighty claret and blue. Well, having slummed it last year, he must be ecstatic really! The 33-year-old striker put in a battling performance against his former club Blackburn Rovers on Sunday and could well keep his place as Villa travel to another of his former clubs Chelsea on Wednesday. 57% said Villa would win v Blackburn (including Mystic Mug who got the score correct as well!), 16% said Villa would lose, 27% predicted a draw.

Steven Davis has admitted he hasn't hit the form that he enjoyed last year so far but promises he will be back. The young midfielder said: 'With the way things went for me last season, I'm not entirely happy with the way things are going at the minute. I think I can do a lot better and that's what I'm looking to do. Hopefully with every game I'm getting sharper and getting to where I want to be. I spoke to the manager and I know myself that I'm not playing as well as I can so I know there's definitely room for improvement.' Full article: Click Here

We asked on Vital Villa what your favourite striker partnership was: Juan Pablo Angel and Gabriel Agbonlahor polled 40%, Chris Sutton and Gabriel Agbonlahor polled 31%, Chris Sutton and Juan Pablo Angel were third with 14%, The other three options, Sutton & Baros, Gabby and Baros + Angel and Baros all got 5%. I'm sorry, I bored myself there.

another snippet from tribal football: Aston Villa are hot on the trail of Southend United striker Freddy Eastwood. The Daily Mail says Villa boss Martin O'Neill had the 23-year-old watched during Southend's 3-1 weekend loss at Wolves, but Eastwood failed to score. Villa are prepared to pay around 2 million for the striker.

'Fighting Talk From MON' has been my personal favourite article of the past few days. Sums up perfectly the new found belief and approach to which we now go into games, compared to last season.
