It is obvious that Aston Villa need a new central defender and hence, David O'Leary is being linked to a January swoop for every defender under the sun. Zat Knight was last weeks 'target' and with a poll on the Vital Fulham site having 91% of their fans saying he should be sold because he hasn't progressed, you could argue that a bid would bare fruit!
However another often linked defender is Chelsea's giant Robert Huth. O'Leary tried to sign him on loan but Huth decided to stay at Chelsea and fight for a first team place. It is now obvious that he won't be getting that chance at Chelsea and according to the Daily Mail, O'Leary will try once more in the January transfer window to secure the services of the young German international.
However, according to the News of the World this weekend, our hopes could well be dashed as German giants Bayern Munich are also looking at bidding for him. The report suggests that Huth will consider that move in order to get first team football and to cement a place in the German side for the World Cup next season.
I guess a great deal will depend on what Huth wants, does he wish to build a premiership career or return to his homeland to one of their biggest clubs?
All will become clear in January I guess! One this is for sure, with Martin Laursen out for up to a year and young Ridgewell still learning, cover is needed. Either that or Bouma needs to start playing in the centre and restore Jlloyd to the left back position. If Jlloyd remains on the bench, then the rumoured bid from Charlton Athletic in the winter transfer window could well become a reality.
