'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Villa Times 02/11/2006

Unoial Villa News...

Former Villa striker Marcus Allback scored the winning goal for Copenhagen against Manchester United in Group F of the Champions League last night.

Aston Villa are being linked with QPR winger Lee Cook. QPR (and former Villa) manager John Gregory said of the 24-year-old: 'He has been outstanding and I know there are clubs having a look at him. We will always be under pressure if someone comes in with money.'

Martin Laursen is hoping the Villa's hectic schedule will mean he'll get a first team game: 'There are three games in six days, which will hopefully give me a chance of featuring in at least one of the games. I was pleased when we got through against Leicester, because it meant another game and gave me a better chance to play. I'm desperate to play. I want to play as many minutes as I possibly can. But I can understand the situation. It's the same with the national team, I've been away and the players that have played have played well.'

Martin O'Neill says he doesn't know how much money he has to spend in January, but whatever the sum, he wants to buy players as cheaply as possible! He also says that new owner Randy Lerner is 'very supportive'. Full article: O'Neill, Chirpy Chirpy Cheap Cheap

Vital Villa asked which kit manufacturer you thought Villa should be attracting to a club of our status. Adidas were the winners with over half of the votes, they polled 52%. Right now MD of Adidas, please send me a pair of Gazelle trainers in every colour possible for the promotion, many thanks! ;o) They can be sent to JF, c/o Living In His Own World, Plonkersville. Nike got 41%, Puma polled 4%, for some reason Hummel got 2% Reebok got an amazingly low 1% Diadora got no votes.

Some while back, when we dissolved Villa Fans Combined and it became clear that the Aston Villa Shareholders Association would soon be consigned to history, I worked on a 24 page document - called Villa Forward - to pass on to the new group should they have an interest in it, which they did! Here is a shortened two part version: Villa Forward Part One and Villa Forward Part Two

Vital Villa asked what kept Villa fans away from Villa Park. 53% said nothing, they always attend. 21% said the price. 8% got used to doing other things when they got fed up with the Ellis era and another 8% pick and choose the games they wish to see. That left 5% being put off by the constant fixture changes and 5% bemoaning the lack of star players.

Thought for the day: Circle the stain in permanent pen, so that when you remove the garment from the washing machine you can easily locate the area of the stain And check that it has gone.

How's O'Neill doing?

Good to see one of our ex's still doing the business elsewhere, even if he didn't particularly do it with regularity for us. Marcus Allback is the man in question, a well received effort because it came against that lovable lot from Old Trafford, an outfit we no longer seem capable of beating.

Wonder why Marcus could never really prove himself at Villa Park? He certainly had the ability.
