The Aston Villa Chronicles

From John Lerwill:

I've just done a major update to my Chronicles webpage http://hp-h.com/p/astonvilla/a_villa_chron.htm - it now includes a summary of the contents of Volume 1 (taken from the draft book's Preface), and also an entertaining Villa match report from 1883, as a larger example of the
book's content.

In terms of the research status, I have to date covered the periods 1880 to 1888 and 1898 to 1915. I'm just entering the period 1889 to 1897, and I will also be looking for material before 1880. There are gaps in the research covered so far (particularly 1884 and 1905), but they will be covered.

I don't think you'll find a more comprehensive archive Villa site on the net, a very worthy read and soon to be transformed into a book, if JAL can ever get his research completed!

The more I have unearthed articles and reports, Jonah, the more I believe that the truth of our heritage is contained within them, and that we should be highly proud of them. There is no other club that was reported on with the same depth of feeling from such a long time ago. And as for The Fear's question on whether JAL can ever get the research completed, it's more a question of 'when'. The target still remains the same. I was ahead in my research, and now I've had to take a break for a little while. I'm still highly optimistic that Volume 1 will be available by next summer.
