McCann Fit For Rovers Return?

Martin O'Neill will find out later today if the much missed Aston Villa midfielder Gavin McCann will be fit to face Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

The 28-year-old has missed the last three games with a calf injury but O'Neill is hoping he will make a Rovers return (oh come on, you don't get this quality anywhere else!!!!)

The Villa gaffer said: 'I am hoping he gets close. On Friday I would have felt relatively optimistic about Sunday's game, ten days away...But he is certainly not going to go out and do anything until today at the earliest. The doctor has said that if he is feeling great then we will push him on. We need him out there now.'

'It didn't surprise me how much we missed him on Saturday, because I just feel he is so important to us. When he got injured at Scunthorpe, my immediate thought was: I hope he's alright for the next league game. McCann has become a very, very important and influential player for us.

Adding: 'If you're striving to try and improve the squad, then not to miss one individual as much as we've missed McCann is the point in question. Looking at the squad, there's nobody else who does what he does for the team.'

Meanwhile some of the Villa gossip sites are once again claiming O'Neill will make a renewed bid for Newcastle winger James Milner in January. Quite why they think the situation has changed and that this story should be re-told I'm not sure, there again, I'm now repeating it as well!

Full credit to Mccann I thought he was one of our 3 worst performers last season but he has completely turned it around. Maybe he was just going stale under DOL? Hope he keeps up this resurgence in form.

DeanoVilla. Dead right mate, he has been brilliant for us this season and we are a poorer team without him.
jonah
we need him back to kick savage's ass around the pitch
samtozer
definately been missed, he has put his value up considerably since the start of the season, looks like a different player, but there again that applies to quite a few of the chaps, hard to single them out. UTV

McCann is like so many quality utility mid-field players. Nothing fancy, graft all-day, and never shirk a tackle. You only notice players like Gav when they're not playing - do you know what I mean? do you know what I mean?

Would be a welcome return. Osbourne is good but not good enough to be a regular at the moment.

We just do not have an adequate replacement at the club to even step in on a short term basis to replace our Gav. He's having a great season, and the sooner we get him back into action the better.
