Sheringham Nearly Joined Villa

Veteran striker Teddy Sheringham has revealed he nearly quit West Ham to join Aston Villa earlier this season as he was getting frustrated at the lack of first team action for the Hammers.

The 40-year-old former Manchester United, Millwall and Tottenham man explained:

'When I am not involved in the 16 I sometimes wonder if I should move on. Aston Villa came in for me earlier in the season and I thought 'that would do for me'. I sometimes wonder why I am putting myself through all of this and then get disappointed in not being involved.'

If memory serves me right, the former England striker was also linked to a return to White Hart Lane but opted to stay at Upton Park.

not old enough for us, we need some experience to mix in with the youth. Maybe a good signing in a few years when he has developed his game a bit. Plus I dont think he played for O'Neil at Celtic.

I like the way MON says he is going to look at younger players, and then we hear we nearly signed Teddy Sheringham! I'm personally glad he turned us down.

A lucky escape there. Got to hand it to Teddy though, he's still doing the business, even if only in dribs and drabs, at the tender old age of 40. However, despite having said that, I wouldnt have been overly impressed with his arrival at Villa Park, merely bridging gaps or not.

Damm I cant believe we missed out on the greatest player in the world

he could have been a good guy to have round the changing room though...bring back dublin and recruit sheringham in january, the younger players would look up top them and could leanr a lot from them
