Aston Villa Amongst The Best Ever

The English Football League Archive site has a list of the all time league with all the points counted from 1886 to 2006.

So how do Villa fair?

6th.

The top ten are Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End and then the mighty claret and blue of Villa. Then there is Sheffield United, Sunderland, Everton and Burnley.

The new money boys of Chelsea only come 31st, Spurs are 37th.

Villa also have one European Cup title*, one Champions Cup and one European Super Cup win.

Domestically we have:

Seven league titles, only bettered by Liverpool (18), Man United (15), Arsenal (13) and Everton (9).

Seven FA Cup trophies only bettered by Man Utd (11), Arsenal (10), Spurs (8) and equalled by Liverpool.

Five League Cup trophies which I believe is second only to Liverpool (7)

january will be our time then we can get a couple of pure quality players. 20 plus a season striker would do for starters.

Deano why is it surprising about wolves? they used to have a good team many many years ago. does this league include points from all leagues or just from the top league?

I honestly didnt know Wolves had such a proud history. My dad tells me about the likes of Preston and Burnley being great way back but didnt realise Wolves were too.

No mention it seems of our friends and neighbours from across this great city of ours. Surely a mistake in view of the fact that their supporters constantly refer to them as the number one club in the midlands?

Only depressing bit about all this is the fact that when I was a small kid I was really proud of the Villa being FA Cup record holders (and I'm not that old!!). It hasn't gone up since! I think it's about time we won that again.
