Spurs To Fight For Villa Target?

According to reports today Martin O'Neill might have a 'fight' on his hands to land the signature of Celtic's Shaun Maloney as Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol is said to be monitoring the situation.

23-year-old Maloney, who is an attacking midfielder and also a striker when called upon, is out of contract in the summer so all interested clubs can speak to him in January to negotiate a summer move.

However the Hoops player hasn't ruled out staying at Celtic:
'My preferred option is to stay - I have said that from day one seven months ago. But the deal has to be right and that is the main thing. I would have liked a deal to have been done a lot quicker but both parties have to be happy and, until that happens, it will not be signed.'

I think we have the better chance of sigining him if this link is true. We have the smaller squad so he'll be more likely to start and he has probably worked under O'neill before. All i here is good reports from my friends who support Celtic. theyre pi$$sed off to say the least that we keep poaching their players!

I am a Celtic fan as well & this boy is excellent.Having said that its not the greatest league in the world
TuBBz
what does he play at most Tubbz, attacking midfield or striker?
The Fear
could he be another liam miller? a kid with alot of talent but doesnt make the grade up? seen a bit of him and he does look quality ur right though villa would be more attractive more chance of first team football and the o'neil link should sway in ur favour if spurs are in fact in for him we get linked to so many players idoubt its true
buckers_07
Why dont we just bloody call ourselves Celtic and have done with it. Jesus. Can you imagine if DOL kept signing Leeds players, he'd have been slaughtered.
DeanoVilla
Still unbeaten Deano, time to have a pop when were losing.
silkie villain
i dont care who we sign as long as they do the business.
samtozer
I aint having a pop. Far from it, I love MON! Just getting a bit fed up with all these Celtic links. When we gonna be linked to some really good players?
DeanoVilla
Know very little about him, but if he's of the quality that we both need and now demand, then lets bring him in. Big name arrivals might have to wait until the summer of 2007, when hopefully we'll have the added attraction of European football to offer potential targets. However, strengthening of sorts is very much needed in January.

Loving the DOL quote Denao, if DOL had bought one more Leeds players we would have killed him!!!...theres one small difference though MON knows whats he's doing and has a proven track record, DOL was a turnip and sold Crouch for peanuts
son_of_cher
Iagree Deano but we know his hands are tied till Jan. Anyway could be worse he could of gone chasing Leicester players Hesky and Gippo etc.

Is anyone really surprized that spurzzzzzzzzzzz want to but a young talent? I thought that it was a well estrablished fact that they are trying to get a monopoly on all young talent ;o) I echo the thoughts above, who cares who comes in as long as they do the business and fit into the team and culture at VP, we still want to recognise our team as Villa so we neeed players that want to play for the team not just the money
Villain Of The North
I am just surprised the Spurs muppets aren't on saying how much bigger and better a club they are and Maloney is sure to pick them above us....as Barry did of course!!!!
fatloser
fatloser give them time they will come, there is obviously nothing interesting on their site, I don't care where the talent comes from, I just want the best team on the pitch for the Villa, BUT it is so nice to hear the dulcet tones of Gabby when he is interviewed, is there just that little bit extra there when the player is a life long fan? It would appear so, or does the love of your team make you try too hard and therefore not relax and play to your full ability? would make an interesting study. UTV

Martin Jol is after anybody and everybody, so no surprise there. Reading up on Shaun Maloney, he's definitely got the right pedigree, and looks as if he'd be the right kind of signing, the type we need to be making. Highly talented, young, certainly fits my requirements.
