'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dramatic Villa Win v Leicester City

Martin O'Neill applauded the team for the 3-2 victory over Leicester City and said 'That was a night of real drama and the important thing is that we're through.'

Goals from Juan Pablo Angel, Gareth Barry (one penalty scored, one missed) and Gabriel Agbonlahor assured Villa of 'safe' passage into the last sixteen, but Leicester refused to give up and twice levelled the game.

O'Neill told the official site: 'I think we went through the whole range of emotions tonight, but the important thing is that we're through to the next round. We made the perfect start with a goal so early on and then, credit to Leicester, they pegged us back twice. I felt Gareth Barry and Gabby Agbonlahor were terrific for us all night and, if we were going to win, it would be one of them.'

'In the end it was Gabby who popped p with a timely winner, but it might just as easily have been Gareth, but for a sensational save right at the death. I'm not sure any of us would have survived penalties, but in the end we didn't have to worry about them and we're in the hat.'

O'Neill also praised both sets of fans after a great reception from the Leicester fans and 'the noise from the Villa fans was absolutely amazing.'

Small Heath also progressed, could our nerves stand a local derby cup game for the next round?!

Bring on Small Heath. They've already reached their pinnacle by winning the Leyland DAF cup once and the Auto Windscreen Shield... which league do you have to be in to win those cups? Like the rest of us, MON must be quacking in his boots looking at those honours. The prospect of beating the blues and putting the final nail in Steve Bruce's coffin is one that I want to see.

Would love to get Blues or Everton at home in the next round.

I dont care who we get, i just want to keep winning!

lets avoid blues until the final when we can thrash them with a record score in the new wembley stadium in front of the whole world. Just in case lets get warmed up....all together now....sit down potatoe head, sit down potatoe head, sit down potatoe

Good all action cup-tie, great atmosphere created by the traveling Villans, but like at Scunny United in the previous round, the game was no cake walk, and possibly could have gone either way. We stepped up the pace in extra time though, definitely looking the stronger side, and on the strength of those thirty extra minutes, probably deserved just to shade it.

Anyone tell me how Osborne played or the Leicester full back Stearman we were linked with? I'm sure Stearman cupped his hand around his ear when he scored. A bit disrespectful!
Gazvilla
Osborne was very good, not out of this world but considering he's only just come into the first team he was rock solid. Slightly nervous though which is understandable :)

Three goals AND an away win. Oh happy day!
