Young Right-Back To Villa Park?

According to the Mirror today, Aston Villa are looking with interest in Leicester City right-back, Richard Stearman

Apparently O'Neill's assistant manager John Robertson was sent to watch the 19-year-old play against Leeds this week and a bid in January is being mooted.

The 6'2' full back has already played 58 games for Leicester and is thought to be ready to make the step up to the Premiership.

Would be great to see this policy of bringing in the youngest and brightest talents so Villa not only build for now but also for the future. Far more exciting to see a team built like this rather than the money bags approach of Abramovich, although a few top notch signings will be nice as well! ;-)

But he's never played for Martin O'Neill before! What is going on!
Jamie1967
That doesn't matter? Spurs are doing similar, bringing in the young talent from all around. He must still have good contacts at Leicester and as long as we buy some quality names as well, it is great to get the mix. Obviously calls into doubt Mark Delaney's future at Villa.
The Fear
I agree with JP

For clarification Mr Fear. Your article suggests he is a 6'2" striker?? Is this a mistake or can he play elsewhere?
Gazvilla
Where does it say striker Gaz?
Villain Of The North
Its a problem position for us that obviously needs looking at, and certainly young Stearman is the sort of up and coming talent that we should be looking at.
glensider
he would be a great back up for hughsy

Vllian of the North - This is a conspiracy. Mr Fear you've changed your article and put in full back. Come on admit it I'm looking a right ejit here!

wonder how long before MON starts buying players from Wycombe seeing he likes his former clubs alot!!
industrial_musical
Why are some being so negative about MON looking at players he knows. You don't spend millions on 'spec' unless you are a bit of an idiot and MON is not that. Have faith, he will do the right thing.
DoogieTyBrenin
I have huge faith, Petrov will become a class act, sutton and agathe are not world class but they are good backup whilst MON searches for new recruits. CAnnot wait until january!
industrial_musical
right back......if its not cafu or lilian thuram im not interested. What about didier agathe christie or whatever he's called - he looked alright?
tylervilla
No but MON has farmed one of the Villa youngsters off to wycombe till christmas.... may be a make weight in any deal in the near future.

This kid Bardsley at Manchester United is highly rated. Think he's currently out on loan at Celtic or Rangers. He'd be an option.
