Villa Maloney Baloney?!

Aston Villa are once again being linked to Celtic striker Shaun Maloney.

The Daily Record say that the 23-year-old striker, who is out of contract at Parkhead in the summer, is looking to move with Martin O'Neill leading the chase.

They also claim that Chelsea are interested but if you were a young striker, where would you go? To a team full of superstars meaning you are unlikely to get a game, or to a newly revitalised Villa who are building for now and the future?

It's a tough one and, sadly, I can see him going - he is considered the most taltented Scottish prospect in years. Until he was injured training with Ireland, we've had Aiden McGeady playing on the left wing, and he has been having a superb season to keep Maloney out of the side. However, when Maloney did come in against Benfica, he was outstanding. While it might seem odd to outsiders that Maloney, last season's Scottish Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year, is not in the first XI, I think it is a sign that Strachan selects his team purely on merit, not the past.

It should also be added that O'Neill didn't seem to rate Maloney when he was up here and, if he wants to move and gets the chance of Villa or someone else in the top half of the Prem, I'd back him to choose "someone else"
ForeverHoop
Interesting, although he was that bit younger when O'Neill was in charge, so was he ready then?
The Fear
I'd have him at Villa Park if he wil keep scoring goals
Christo
He plays as more of a left-winger than a striker, so will that fit into your style of play?
ForeverHoop
ForeverHoop - Good to have you guys on the site. Credit to your club as you were when Petrov came down. We get idiots coming on and slagging us off if one of their players are linked. The one area we're short on a present since the injury to Moore is the left-wing striker berth. So yes, he would be ideal. Although I would be cautious about Scottish Premier players as apart from you guys, who would do well in our Prem, I don't think other Scottish sides are up to much.
Gazvilla
Dear foreverhoop, just to confirm, when Gazvilla refers to idiots he really means Newcastle and Spurs fans !
bobbyfett
bobbyfelt - That's what I call unity. How did you guess what I was thinking?
Gazvilla
Sorry that should read boobyfett and not bobbyfelt. I wasn't suggesting anything.
Gazvilla
Blimey I'm gonna have to spellcheck. Who the hell is boobyfett?! I'm just gonna let this one go.
Gazvilla
Gazzvilla, in norwegian "fett" means fat so it looks like some kind of Freudian slip. Obviously when you were typing you were thinking of a girl with "fat boobies", but then I guess that applies to most of us, most of the time ;o)
Villain Of The North
Obviously a lot of rumours will be doing the rounds until January arrives, when no doubt MON will surprise us all by bringing in names that have not even rated a mention prior to their signing. Interesting times though with all of this transfer talk, because at least now we can genuinely believe that come the transfer window we will be witnessing some action.

Maloney would be an asset at any team. If he goes anywhere, I want him to join up with St Martin. However, that will not stop me being outraged that he has been allowed to leave. Unless of course that is what he secretly desires. You're unlucky that Henrik Larsson has retired to Sweden. Otherwise, he'd have joined up with MON.
malcy
But I honestly think Strachan saved Maloney - he just wasn't getting the games or the recognition he deserved under O'Neill, with all respect to O'Neill.

Villa linked with another play................ is this news?

There would be a lot of competition for Maloney I would imagine, but he's the type of young talent we now need to be going after. The lure of the premiership and a higher grade of football should tempt him to move south, but to where?
