'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No Automatic Place For Sutton

Martin O'Neill has challenged Chris Sutton and Didier Agathe to impress him and force their way into his plans.

O'Neill told the official site: 'The team's been doing OK at the moment (8 unbeaten!) and I'm getting back to my point about players being fit enough to play in the team and not wanting to disrupt things at this moment. It's up to everyone to try to get in the side.'

'Taking Chris Sutton on doesn't mean he'll step straight in the side. I know Chris Sutton will come here thinking he'll step straight in the team. He'll say 'I'll bide my time' or whatever, but they all want to play and if he's fit enough, he'll want to be in the team.'

Adding: 'Agathe's the same in a quieter manner. But it's really up to them, and if they're ready to take their chance when it comes. That's all I can ask.'

I actually can't wait to see what Chris Sutton will bring to the party. I must admit if I was a defender with 20 mins to go, I'm not sure I'd want to see Sutton coming on a sub to bully them about!

He will definitely provide us with an interesting alternative up front. Even if we get 5 goals out of him this season it will have been a good bit of business by MON

he will be purely a back up I reckon although you never know a few goals and that could all change !

Let Angel, Agbonlahor run the teams defence ragged and then bring Sutton on for one of them and he'll smack a few headers in or play the target man for others to run off. good signing, do one at the end of the season when we get another big young guy to do the same.

On the other side of things, he'll be useful if we're winning and looking to hold a lead. He can hold the ball up and bring other players into the game and he gives us that long ball outlet if it's needed

I think dion dublin would have been a better signing (about same age and fits celtic criteria). You cant get better than a big dubs header.

Chris Sutton is past his best. No wonder he can't get into the starting XI, anymore. He struggled at Birmingham, when he moved there last season.

Like I said, target man, bounce a few balls off his head and he even knows how to defend!!!! Forget about Celtic unless we are gonna pinch Gravesen from them one of the days. Roll on Defoe or Keano, Luke Young, Wayne Routledge, Zoltan Gera, Darren Bent I say!

Sutton, if we can keep him fit, could surprise a lot of supporters. Lets give him every chance to prove himself. He could be just what we need up front.
