An Uncertain Return For Milner?

Martin O'Neill has said he doesn't know what will happen in relation to a possible return for James Milner in January. The Newcastle winger was a late target for O'Neill in the summer and it was only a last minute re-call by the Magpies Chairman Freddy Shepherd that prevented a permanent move for Milner.

With the emergence of Gabriel Agbonlahor it is no longer a certainty that Villa will bid once again for the £4million rated Milner.

O'Neill said: 'It's interesting how things progress with regards to the side. For instance, Gabby's having a wonderful time playing wide. I'm sure at some stage he'll want to go and play centre-forward, and I think he'll get an appreciation from playing there. But he's doing so well that I think he got a call-up to the under-21s because of what he's done in that position, not because he's a centre-forward playing wide.'

Adding: 'Gabby might adjust to playing wide and think 'I've got a chance here' - so I'm trying to be flexible. I've got no set mind. I can accept Juan Pablo Angel won't be playing out there, but I'm talking about the younger players who still have a degree of flexibility about their play. Gabby played out there in a 4-4-2 at Chelsea and without a problem at all. So (with regards to Milner) I just don't know what will happen.'

Our latest poll asks if we should return for James Milner.

I think you guys should do , great talent who will only get better under Martin O Neill ...

Shaun Wright Phillips would probably have a bigger impact but Milner is a very good player.

Would love to see us go for Wright-Phillips. Gabby is doing an excellent job, but he's only young so it would be nice to have another option

feet on the ground guys.....Milner will still be a great buy. Ronaldo and SWP might be better but Milner has got years left in him and was quality for us. He is a villa player at heart and he knows it.

Given the choice between the two, SWP would be my choice everytime. And i'm not sure that is pie in the sky, considering he isn't getting a look in at Chelski and MON will have money to spend. With a manager like MON, we should be able to attract real quality to the club
Geordie_Villa
Buy them both, SWP as the winger, bring JM on and move SWP to striker or behind the fron two and bring off Baros or Angel - who ever is tiring first. Whoa, this is dreamland. Still reckon we should buy Joey Barton.

Gabby has made an impressive start to the campaign, but I personally would definitely go in for James Milner, if of course Newcastle would sell him. Gabby's got the edge on pace, but JM has got more to his overall game. Its Jimmy Milner for me.
