Martin O'Neill To Carry On Rolling?

Martin O'Neill has told The Times that he might not want a long term contract after reports yesterday suggested he would be offered a six year deal worth around £15million.

O'Neill said: "Long-term contracts might make a manager lazy. I don`t know how many times I have to reiterate that I stayed for several years at Wycombe Wanderers, Leicester City and Celtic without wishing to leave. I`m not planning on walking out here in the immediate future."

Slightly worrying this. I'm sure he has no plans to walk out in the immediate future. But in three years? Five years? Whenever Alex Ferguson retires? Mind you, is any contract worth the paper it's written on?

Hate to say I told you so but isnt this exactly what I said yesterday? The press are just lazy, re-hashing the same story from 4 weeks ago.

contracts really do not matter nowadays I think , if someone will go they will .. look at the Parkinson affair with him coming to us in the summer , it was gonna happen , just in the end it was how much compo they wanted !

the advantage of a long contract is that it would mean added compensation for villa should anyone try to poach MON, and lets face it there are a fair few clubs that might try it.

I doubt he'd leave us in the lurch, if he did leave i'm 100% sure he would do it in a dignified way. Anyway he likes the chairman, the chairman likes him, the fans love him, the players obviously enjoy playing for him so why would he leave?

Im sure its nothing that Randys chief general mate cant sort out with a quick stress position.

to repeat an earlier post just remember to take into account the reason MON left football in the first place, he may not want to be tied to a long term contract just in case he is needed at home, so don't fear the worst if he doesn't sign a 20 year contract, I know I am expressing a lot of fans wishes when I say I hope and wish for a healthy future for his wife and family. If he is successfull at Villa, why would he want to take a step backwards in 3-4 years and go to MUTD? That is what it will be as we are on the asscention and they, despite good early season form, are generally on the decline. In 2-3 years I expect us to pass them in footballing terms. Of course in marketing terms they are so far ahead of most of the world that off the pitch we may never pass them but who gives a *****e about that?

As a Chairman , why would you want to have a manager on a long term deal ? They're not worth the paper they are written on ! Worst case scenario , MON squanders 100 mil on crap players,we end up in the relegation zone, We would have to sack him ! Think of the compensation !! ******* loads ! ! ! I am keeping my feet firmly on the ground !! LOL

good point jasper...think of the compensation O'leary received from Leeds for his 10(or was it 6?) year contract they had to pay him off in installments over a few years!

No complaints from me on that score. MON is a man of his word.
