Davis Might Get A Rest

Reports on the official site suggest that David O'Leary might give Villa midfielder Steven Davis a rest at the weekend.

The 20-year-old Northern Ireland international has worked hard this season and surprised a few as to how many games he has played but O'Leary is mindful of not letting the player burn out with so many fixtures coming up over Christmas (or is it Winterville these days?! Well it will be if those loopy wishey washy liberal minded softies have their way! End of rant).

O'Leary said: 'There isn't much in the way of sprucing things up after the Newcastle game. I'll have to have a look at Davo as we have been thinking of giving him a breather. I have to be careful with Steven. We've got four games in eight days which is an horrific amount, but generally speaking it will be the same team on Saturday. I'll also have to look at the height of the team.'

Have to agree with this, Davis isn't the biggest player and he is still learning. The one thing that can happen in matches against physical sides is him getting slightly muscled out of the midfield battle.

O'Leary continued: 'Bolton play in the 'land of the giants' and with Lee Hendrie and James Milner the availability of Phillips may dictate a lot what we do.'

He added about Phillips, who is now pushing to be fit: 'He's okay in terms of the fact there's no damage as such to his ankle, but I don't yet know if he'll be ready for the game. That's not something we will know until tomorrow.'
