Dundee Youngster Tracked by Villa

Villa are the latest big club to be linked to Dundee's 17-year-old Kevin McDonald after both Everton and Celtic failed in six figure bids for the midfielder.

A report in the Evening Telegraph suggests O'Neill will bid in January and they quote manager Alex Rae:

"When I first came here, there was a bit of interest in Kevin and there were a couple of bids for him. But he`s a young boy and he`s hit a bit of decent form recently, so I`m not surprised people want to come and look at him. However, he`s still at the stage where he`s, basically, learning his trade here."

By looking at the picture above if he's 17 he must have had a ******* hard paper round.

This is the sort of transfer that villa should be pursuing more often. I would much rather see money being spent on younger players than on 30 somethings that can only go down hill. Villa in the past have spent an awful lot of money on players whose resale value has plummetted.

"learning his trade?!" their may be many trades you can learn in dundee but football is not one of them

I've seen him play and he's a good player - probably too good for Dundee but it is hard to tell with youngsters. Would Celtic and Everton put in a six-figure bid if they hadn't looked him over properly? Trust me, Martin O'Neill is all about buying young players so you should trust him - I'd love to see McDonald at Palmerston but it's not going to happen! Oh, and the picture of Alex Ray - he does still play, and scored a blinder in Dundee's 4-0 battering of money-men Gretna the other week...

Are we now going to see Villa linked to moves for a number of promising youngsters? The power of MON!

Bring the youngsters on board says I. Better them than the 30+ guys we've been after in recent seasons. O.K., they (the kids) are often a gamble, but at the sort of prices you have to pay, they are often gambles well worth taking.
