Head of merchandising John Greenfield has explained that the club have had to give up on the attempt to have a star added to the shirts to signify our European Cup triumph because apparently it is against the FA's rules.
Bloody red tape and rules is all this country ever produces! Beware, rant warning......no my mistake, just a bit of indigestion.
Greenfield wanted to add a star for the 2006-07 kits, but the initial application was rejected. Villa then appealed, but have been told the star will not be permitted in Premiership games. So our European cup winning teams aren't allowed to display their pride at winning this magnificent competition? Who at the FA decided that gem?
He told the official site: 'The simple fact is that adding the star to the shirt does not comply with FA regulations, so a star can only be worn for European competitions. Who knows, after the start we've had, maybe Martin O'Neill will steer us back into Europe next season and then we can take another look at this.'
'We're as disappointed as the supporters about the ruling and, believe me, we appealed right to the very top, but it's not allowed and that's that. In the meantime we'd always planned to launch the 25th anniversary range and that will be on sale before Christmas.'
Maybe next year our kits should be replica's of the 82 teams shirts to signify our 25th anniversary? Nice if they were made by Adidas wouldn't it?! ;-)

i suppose we have to wait until one of the london clubs win the competition, then conveniently, the rules will be adapted.we need the 4 english clubs that have won it to get together to petition the shiney arses down south to re-consider.

that's a load of rubbish my team (DRFC) have 3 gold stars on our shirt and we haven't won anything above the third division!!!

Absolute sheer stupidity. A rule that will no doubt remain in force until Arsenal win the trophy (as if!), and David Dein puts forward a rule change proposal.

If we qualify for Europe, the club will be able to sell a shirt with a star on for European games and a shirt without a star for league games. More money to shell out for the MEGA RICH 30 GRAND A WEEK FAN!! Or am I still trying to shake of the old Ellis regime!!!!

I must admit Dazza, I did wonder what the FA could do if they just put a star there, surely they couldn't actually stop us designing a shirt in that way? Maybe they should put a massive one on the back of every shirt?!?! Ok, maybe not.

well Man City have 3 gold stars on the top of their badge, don't know why really. I think its all pretty lame teams showing off how much they've won, it'll just give man utd and liverpool fans more fuel to their arrogant fires. Its all a bit silly really.

Pfftt! Against FA regulations. What the ******* hell are the FA doing spending time and money on "Shirt Regulations"? Is this where all the money going - oh I guess there is Sven. Why don't they stop meddling in affairs that are not their concern, and instead get on top of dodgy South American transfers and wishy washy Russian tapping up affairs!

I recall Nottingham Forest having their two stars on their shirt a couple of seasons back, not sure if they have them now tho. Could they have different regulations in the Football League to the Premiership? Hardly worth getting relegated for tho!
