Gareth Barry For England!

Martin O'Neill has joined the 'Barry for England' chorus sung by the Holte End. O'Neill says the player, who did a u-turn following the managers arrival having been almost certain to leave Villa Park this summer, has the right qualities to play for England.

O'Neill said: 'Gareth wants to concentrate on playing well for his club now. He realises, if he does that, it shouldn't matter where Aston Villa are in the league in terms of getting a chance with England. Has he the ability to break into the England squad? Absolutely.'

Barry has been made the Villa captain and signed a four year contract recently, now we need Steve McClaren to open his eyes to the best left footed English midfielder in the Premiership!

Every manager has their favourites and McClaren is no different. However, now Villa are becoming respectable again, if Barry continues his current level of performance I think we can expect to see him break into the squad sometime next year.

Yes, I'm not a Downing fan either villasw. Gareth fully deserves another opportunity. Under the previous incumbents reign he was overlooked while other less talented individuals were given the nod.

If mclaren is going to play a 4-3-3 what better player than Barry to play in the outside left of the central 3? WOuld work wonders, but macca wont even consider it.

Who would want to play for Mcclaren - better to wait until Venebals is asked to take over. England played like Middlesbrough, was anyone impressed - typical McClaren!

If Barry played for a London club like tottenham i should imagine he would be selected, it seems like England managers have a phobia of picking players from outside of the capital!

A better option, or at least a complimentary option to Downing. No reason why he shouldn't have been selected this time round. Same old *****e as with Ericsson...pick the media favourites.

If he doesnt make the squad ill be surprised. McClaren seems to be dishing out a new England squad, so someone will have to make way for Barry, he dropped Beckham which brought in Lennon and Richardson, so why not. Barry for England indeed

Have you nothing better to do geordie boy? Having said that, your comments betray the truth of your screen name as the lack of maturity confirms that your are still a boy and not a man so I guess we can't expect anything better from you. So why don't you just ask mummy for some cookies and a glass of milk and go and watch pokemon cartoons like the rest of your peers. As for Barry, he was once concidered good enough and is now better than he was then, give him a chance, if he fails he won't be the first but at leat we will all know, including the 30-40% of the media that tout him as the answer to Englands left side problems.

As class less as Geordie boy may seem - what he says I can not disagree with him regarding Barry. If... and only if Barry can do a full season playing consitantly well could he warrant a sniff.
