'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wilfred Bouma Fitness Boost

Wilfred Bouma, who has missed the season so far with a hamstring injury, is due to play in a friendly v Lincoln City this afternoon.

The Dutch international is hoping to be in line for a re-call in Sunday's game against West Ham at Upton Park.

He told the official site: 'I'm looking forward to my second season here - the same as everybody. I came last year and we had an awful season. Everybody wants to do better and be higher in the table. We don't want another season like last year. It would not be acceptable to have another season like that.'

Adding on the O'Neill factor:
'The new manager has given everyone a lift - the players and the supporters. He was linked with England and with a lot of top clubs, so here at Aston Villa, we have to be glad that he took the job.'

Be interesting to see if he immediately replaces Jlloyd Samuel or whether he will be made to wait for his left back spot.

On the injury front it looks like Mellberg will be OK: He's been expelled from the Swedish squad because he missed his bedtime!

As with Milan Baros, its good to have Freddie back in the fold. He looked slimmer and fitter pre-season, and that bodes well for the season ahead. Got to believe that there's a better player in there than was obvious last season.

More good news for Villa.

Still would think he wants to play CB. Maybe a left-back in January might be a possibility?
