Short Term Fixes For Aston Villa

Ok , now that Mr Lerner has been confirmed as being the new man in charge [ed comment: 85.5% return, 90% needed for it to be a done deal] and we will have some new directors with new ideas taking our great club forward how about some realistic suggestions and ideas in the short to medium term for improvements at Villa Park

It has long been touted that Ellis was this great business man, however I think we were ran rather more as corner shop than a large superstore!

Here are my ideas although in preference order:

1.Move the away fans from behind the goal at the north stand and give them the top and bottom tier in the corner of the stand that hopefully will be re-named this would hopefully have the effect of improving the atmosphere and also beneficial to our players knowing our fans where behind the goal at both ends.

2.Improve the organisation of the catering / drinks available prior to a game and half time at the ground the staff at the beer points seem totally clueless and at best serve only 10% of the people wanting food or drinks at halftime therefore = lost revenue for the club

3.Improve the clubs official website and make it far more user friendly and up to date with news of what's happening at our club ( although I have noticed an improvement of late)

4.We are the only premiership club in a massive catchment area lets improve our marketing and for less attractive games let give out free tickets to local schools and clubs they are the fans for the future and a little investment now will pay dividends in the long run

There are of course many bigger things that need to be done at the Villa and after many years of neglect and mismanagement it is not going to be a overnight fix however these are my suggestions for quick short term improvements and hopefully ones that see us one day established back in the elite!!!!

I have a great idea but if it takes off I want a cut Mr Lerner....basically you have a season ticket discount if you a buy a shirt at the same time. I.e. 50 disount if you buy a shirt as well. This would apply also to match day tickets - get 10% off if your wearing this seasons villa shirt. This would hopefully sell more tickets and we will get the ground more full of villa shirts which would be something to look round and be proud of and raisethe atmosphere. I know its genius isnt it.

All good ideas. I'm looking forward to seeing what Randy has in plan for the medium/long term. Suddenly being a Villa fan is interesting again.

I have another one...we need to start a chant of 'get your takeover approval slips back in before lerner changes his mind and Ellis starts filling his pockets back up with the transfer kitty'...not sure how it would sound but its an important message.

1. The away end is a great idea. Would be good for the players to celebrate with our fans. 2. Try and do something by putting seats in the corners. 3. Attach the North stand roof to other stands. 4. Get the training ground finished to help attract players. 5. Sort the sound system out, it was appalling in the top of te Holte against reading. 6. Our own Sky TV station - Villa TV.

A few points. There is already Council permission in place to increase ground capacity to 52000 by redeveloping the North Stand. As soon as we can fill 42500 regularly then this improvement will take place. Buy your season tickets. Why give tickets away for free? This indicates the perceived value as nothing. We should encourage younger supporters but ALL tickets should be paid for. If you come to a game for free and it was poor, what would encourage you to come again in the future?? Plans are in place for the training ground. The sound system is terrible and should be sorted immediately. The match day experience needs to improve, this can be remedied by the fans by singing. An average game seems ten times better when the atmosphere is good. Equally a good game can seem poor when the atmosphere is crap. So sing, not just the Holte End, but Witton Lane, Trinity Road and North Stand. This also encourages the players and should result in more effort and more points. Having a decent club anthem would help. Get every body you know to put the colours in their car (air freshener, car sticker etc), I have had enough of seeing Manure, Redscouse, Olbeyun and the occasional B-lose ones every where. This is our city, we were the first ones here so show your colours with pride. In short, fill Villa Park, sing your hearts out every game, wear your colours as often as possible and for once lets all be positive. We have very little to moan about at the moment so lets make the most of it. UTV

100% behind the suggestion of moving visiting supporters from behind the goal and relocating them in the corner up/lower tier of The Witton Lane Stand.

I think I would rather give away fans half of the upper tier of the North stand, so that none of them are anywhere near the pitch at all. When the stand is then developed consideration should be given to incorporating the away section as far from the pitch as possible, similar to Newcrapstle. Also I am not sure if I have mentioned this before ........ but buy your season tickets now.

My only concern with giving the away fans the upper tier above any of our fans is that you can imagine all sorts of things being flung down onto our fans , with the season tickets idea think its easy to say buy your season tickets but we have to be realistic for whatver reason at present we are not getting enough fans through the gates and that even as one of the cheaper clubs to go and watch, so think with those fixtures which are perceived to be less attractive we need to entice those less regular attendees to get into the habit of coming for more games, so money off for buying 2 or 3 or 4 tickets could be considered and we definitely need to adopt a club athem not only will this help getting the crowd singing but gives us a greater identity

agentprovocateur. I understand your views on away fans throwing things down. However this is easily remedied by having the first few rows of seats being cordoned off, in the same way as the segregation used on the bottom tier of the Witton Lane. Newcrapstle do not have any problems. Season tickets are the most important sale that any club makes to its fans, so it is vital that every fan that can, purchases their tickets now. For those who pick and choose there games there should be price increases. Let me explain that using the home games against Bolton on 16th December and Manure on 23rd December. If an average ticket is 30, the price for the Manure game should be raised to 45. However if you buy both Bolton and Manure together you get them for a combined price of 55 (a saving of a fiver). If you buy the Bolton ticket on its own you pay the regular price of 30. If for whatever reason a supporter can not make the Bolton game maybe opening the offer to include one of the other less attractive fixtures is a possibility. This has several benefits. Firstly it means that we can charge away supporters exactly the same price. Secondly we are encouraging supporters to come for the 'less' attractive fixtures. We are in effect lowering the prices at a financially sensitive time of year (pre Christmas) for the fans who come regularly but who can not afford season tickets. Not one regular supporter will have to pay more. The only fans penalised are those that only come once a season (usually to the manure fixture). I am sure that some of these are manure fans anyway so tough. And if you are a Villa supporter you will be glad of the opportunity to purchase two tickets and make a saving at the same time. This scheme could also be extended to cover the Chelski and Redscouse games. If you lower prices you are in effect lowering the perceived value of the product. The aim is to make the product as good as possible and charge a competitive rate to see it. Not make the product average and have to reduce prices to encourage people to attend. That is the route to financial ruin and is where we were headed under Ellis.

Changes to the away fans seating area would be great but it would have to be done for Next Season..... Worth a thought, I wonder if anyone from the club reads these boards? If there are and you do action please.

Voice of the holte i agree on what you say about Manure idea indeed there will be a fair number of manure fans in villa sections so yes charging 45 to me seems like a very good idea and similarly means that fans who go regular wont mind this at all because they will be in attendance at the bolton game anyway I understand what you are saying about making the product less attractive by lowering or making games free but in my suggestion i said if tickets were given via selected schools not only are you possibly getting fans of the future perhaps there dads and moms may also accompany them and they would be paying entrance this is effect like a loss leader get a percentage of kids in and not only are you hoping some will become long term villa fans but this equates to short term loss long term gain , what im not suggesting is widespread free tickets but selected schools, clubs and games in which the opposition arent so attractive the 1st game i went to was in 1983 notts county at home and we won 3-1 the reason i was hooked was because we won that 1st game and remembering peter withe coming over to the holte to throw in his wrist bands so if we do have kids in on reduced rates hopefully a winning performance will ensure some will become long term villa fans

apv. We both want what is best for the Villa. It is a pity that those employed by the club have not done enough to engage the fans in this process.

Steff. I work for one of the largest media organisations in the country. I have had to do business with the Villa as one of my accounts. However there has been absolutely no inclination from the club to do anything positive in terms of marketing at all. It has always been stopped by the man at the top. Maybe now we will see a change. I have offered my services to the club free of charge, as I feel there are issues as fans, where we can make a difference. Apparently free advice is no good. Maybe because the advice would have been free, the perceived value of the advice was worthless. However had I have been a paid consultant the club would have paid fortunes. Strange world.
