James Milner Better In Claret & Blue

Great news, James Milner obviously listened to the advice of the fans around by me on Sunday and has decided claret and blue suits him better because the Newcastle winger is apparently on his way to Villa Park for talks on a permanent move. The BBC is saying he will move to Villa in a 4million deal.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Villa and has now been given permission by Newcastle to talk over a permanent transfer.

A Villa statement said: 'The club can confirm that James Milner is travelling down to the West Midlands to discuss a permanent move to Villa.'

Great news if he signs and i'm sure he will. Another young and talented player - one of our best last season and one who will improve over time and under Martin O'Neill's guidance.

A solid if unspectacular signing, some of the players must have told MO'N what a prospect he is and how much they enjoyed playing with him last season. A good bit of business.

Signing milner for 4m doesn't get my pulse raising, but he is a flexible player that could improve and obviously got on well with team and fans last year. I hope we make one big shock signing today just to cap of a good deadline day. Defoe is looking most likely.

But we just bought a midfielder in Petrov. We need to fix the defence up a bit. But still, good player, he'll be good for us indeed

I think you canned the last forum - doesn't matter - If Milner signs - what does this mean for Hendrie? I'd welcome Milner back because imagine how he will improve under MON stewardship!

Milner did not look happy playing for newcastle, no where near as fluid as he was when he played for us, and he was one of our few highlights last season, as for Defoe, a short quick striker, do we need one??? I think that very shortly he will not be fit to lace gabbys boots, that boy is quicksilver, and getting better all the time, but one things for sure whatever MON decides is fine by me, havn't lost the silly grin off my face since he became manager.

I think the defence is fine. We have a mix of youth and experience. There are eight defenders in the squad not including barry. No, competition for Angel would be good as we have 3 very similar strikers. I'd have liked to see Vince Grella from Parma (hold midfield role) and he very young to - 25/26?

Good signing, no doubt will improve under MON. Any more rumours? Hope we get a striker, defender, holding midfielder before midnight. It must be a wind up Tevez and Mascharone have gone West Ham?

Anyone notice that AVFC.co.uk has actually confirmed a rumour? When was the last time they did that? I'm blown away by this development. Even more so than the news that Milner might actually sign for us. I'm just so used to the official site handing out the news when someone actually signs and not b4. West Ham + Tevez - is this for real?

The only reason milner hasnt started a premier league game for newcastle is that they are the most mismanaged club in the division. Im sure they'll be happy once theyve got bramble to extend his contract!!

True, but he played well for us last season and will be even better under O'Neill. I'd be well happy to see Milner back at Villa full time.

5 mill for young english talent is a good buy, (remember carrick cost 18m)...milner will be worth at least 15m by his 24th birthday and so will gabby, davis, cahill

Oh dear oh dear geordie boys. Not only is your team going down the pan you are practically giving us your best English talent. I am sure that your other young right midfielder (Solano) has years left in him ......... not! Never mind, You've always got Tightarse Bumble to hold things together for you. I think you want to start looking over your shoulder at Keano instead of looking up at us.

Getin there Milner has a decade of quality football left in him. 4m will look like a micky take in a few years time. He is about the best level of talent we will be able to attract untill we hopefully start qualifying for Europe. Well done Aston Martin if you get him.

Milners a good buy and if MON is going to stick with this formation 433 then Milner will be ideal on the right with his engine. bigger squad means more competition for places. this can only be a good thing.

MON is smart. as far as saviola goes, if he don't wanna be here, we don't want him here. eh? i'm hoping for a rabbit out of the hat come midnight. maybe not defoe? somebody else............

I think we are getting rose tinted specs with regards to our players. Defoe is a better finisher then any of our current players. Milner is a brilliant signing (Newcastle have Duff, Solano, Luque of a similar ilk so it makes sense to let James go if he wants to leave)

Sky is saying he's returned to Newcastle without agreeing a contract??? MON was hinting at some loan deals, nothing reported yet. What we don't need is mediocre players cluttering up the dressing room when MON has time to bring in the class acts. There's no rush but a couple of positions need filling. A right winger, and if we get one this could free up Gabby to be the 4th striker if we have injury probs. I still wouldn't mind a left back.
