O'Neill Gets His First Villa Signing

Aston Villa have just confirmed that midfield playmaker - arguably our first since Paul Merson - has become Martin O'Neill's first signing.

The 27-year-old Bulgarian international has signed a four-year-deal. The fee is 'undisclosed' although reports suggest it is in the region of £6million + add ons.

This is all great and very happy to get Petrov as we certainly need some creativity in midfield but quite surprised that all the other transfer talk is of more forwards and midfielders but no propective defender transfer targets. Our present defence seems to be a little injury prone which definately exposed us last year.

Why would we need a new defender? Laursen, Delaney and Bouma will be back soon. and TeddyLyon... We're definately going to sign a new forward, why else did he let Kevin Phillips leave? this si the best summer :)

The truth is not many Villa fans know how good Petrov is. What we do know is that we trust Aston Martin to get it right. I don't think we ever trusted DOL in this way. Exciting times.

sorry melbourne holte end but can we just enjoy the moment please. New owner, new manager (best in the land) and finally, new players. It feels good to be a villain.

ok, yes we seem to have numbers in defence, theres also "wonder goal" Cahill but all of those 3 you mention missed a lot of games last year through injury. i really hope that Laursen finally gets to prove to us what he can do but not many come back after missing 2 years through injury - i really hope he proves me wrong. I'd like to see a new forward and a right sided defender who can also play in the centre of defence.
