South American Hot Shot Linked

Another reported target, according to the players agent, is Javier Saviola.

According to Alfredo Cabrera, Aston Villa have made an offer for the Barcelona striker.

The 24-year-old, who has been out of favour at the Camp Nou and spent time on loan at both Monaco and Sevilla, has just one year left on his contract.

the South American's agent said, when asked about Villa, 'It is true. We have options in Spain, England and Italy, but there will not be definitive movement until Wednesday.'

My friend who is a journalist confirmed what we already know: they sit in a pub all afternoon, invent stories then stagger back to the office and write them up as fact. I'll believe it when I see these guys wearing a Villa shirt. We haven't even signed Petrov yet.

We need a bigger SQUAD and need to add real quality to what we have already got so it is inevitable that some players will be rested, suspended, injured or dropped. Im afraid if we want to challemge domestically and in europe then this is what must happen. Its the same at Arsenal, Man utd, Liverpool and Chelsea.

always thought Aston Martin liked to have a big target man upfront which i think u would agree neither defoe or saviola are however they are both tricky and cleaver strikers and have quality so would welcome either of them

Agree with you deemz, the squad needs strengthening and in all area's (2 Strikers, Attacking Midifielder, Holding Midifielder, Right Wing, Left Back, Central Defender) to help with what's already there. It is good to see we are being linked with players that will hopefully improve the squad rather than just add to the numbers as seemed to be the case with DOL and Herbert. I think we have left it to late to do any major deals, (Tevez & Mascharone).

this is the vital villa site isnt it (not vital real madrid?). Before the takeover we were being linked with carl cort and jason koumas. Would love Saviola but sometimes agents say this to drum up extra interest. Keep the dream alive.

He's got playing history with Juan the Man Pablo as well, I reckon he'd be a class acquisition and the prospect of Angel/Saviola or Baros/Saviola with Luke and Gabby making a few starts or playing off the bench sounds like a ******* decent strike force to me.

No, just a realist leftfoot. A realist thats all. Common sense should tell you that such a move would be highly unlikely. I'd love it to happen, obviously I would, but I doubt very much that there's the slightest bit of truth in the story.

Spanish citizenship also gives him European citizenship and everything that that entails, makes it easier for him to travel around and without the hassle of work permits as deemz suggested. In itself it means nothing. It would be a very interesting but very risky signing, South Americans generally haven't made a great impact on the Premiership.

Why can no one understand that playing players like Moore and Baros together (or any other name you care to throw in the hat - eg Keene) just does not work. Jol knows it and that's why he rarely plays Keene and Dafoe together, Sven knows it and that's why he never played Owen with Vassel or Dafoe and I'm quite sure O'Neill knows it too. If we get another player of this type expect him to play with Angel, the only forward we have that can lead the line, hold the ball up and win some arial battles. I expect him to buy (if any forwards) someone to give Angel competition, as Phillips may have done had he stayed and been fit enough. We already have one world class player to play along side Angel in Baros, and competition in the form of Moore and Agbonlahor. If Baros goes then OK we could use another quality player of his ilk but don't expect O'Neill to prioritise it. For competition for Angel, Carew is available for around 4-5 million, I personally don't like him and think he's clumsey but hey, he's got a good goal scoring record, he's big and strong and has a good fitness record. Right now Feyanord are trying to get him (I think he's at Roma)

Very good in the World Cup when linking up with Riquelme and Crespo. Also, would be cheap i reckon considering Barca seem to have cast him aside. Will be interesting to see if this develops.

Sorry lads, not this time - From Sky Sports :- " Javier Saviola has turned down the chance to join Aston Villa, according to the Argentina international's agent. With their transfer coffers swelled by Randy Lerner's millions, the Midlands side approached Barcelona on Tuesday regarding a deal for the diminutive forward. The Spanish champions have no desire to keep hold of the 24-year-old, having loaned him to Monaco and Sevilla in consecutive seasons, and Saviola has also been linked with English sides Bolton Wanderers and Arsenal over the summer. However, Alfredo Cabrera Brizuela has now confirmed that his client has no desire to be part of Martin O'Neill's revolution at Villa Park. "The propositions are important, but Javier wants another level," said Brizuela. Racing Santander are now reported to be the favourites to land the former River Plate star, with president Francisco Pernia attempting to find a resolution with his Catalan counterparts for a loan deal. Despite the apparent snub from Saviola, O'Neill is still confident of adding to Wednesday's high profile capture of Celtic midfielder Stilian Petrov. "We are still working on a number of things at the moment," O'Neill told Sky Sports News. "

Yes, agree with that point the flying villain. Actually it was a point I'd overlooked and not considered. I still tend to think though that having just received Spanish citizenship, and going through all that that involves, the temptation to up and off more or less immediately to another country, another culture, wouldn't rank too highly on his agenda.

His agent said that the proposition was intersting but that "Javier wanted another level". It sounds to me like he wants a team already playing in European competition. In other words, others can do the work and he wants the glory. If he is not prepared to work and achieve do we really want him?
