Spurs Striker Linked To Aston Villa

Well, well, well. No action all summer then all of a sudden a flurry of rumours and reports in the press.

The Mirror claim that Martin O'Neill has £30million to spend and one of his targets is out of favour Spurs striker Jermain Defoe. The report claims Villa will make a £9million offer for the England International. Defoe surely can't be happy on the bench at Spurs and the arrival of Berbatov and return signing of Mido could well push the young forward further down in the pecking order.

The 23-year-old might just be looking for a move to push his England credentials and now Villa have the best manager in the country, why not Villa?

Our friends over at Vital Spurs say: Villa Having A Laugh Surely?

The whole point of signing Mido though was so Spurs have 4 good strikers, so move along Villa. You've been big again for 5 mins, so dont get your hopes up. COYS

Jol wants 4 strikers (his words) so I doubt he'll go guys. Also just bought a large house in Chigwell and is happy down south. Still, you have money to burn but I can't see it being used till the Jan window.

Is Defoe likely to swap the streets that are paved with gold for a life in a deprived and economically decimated hell hole off the M6. Is he likely to want to swap playing with the talents of King, Keane, Robinson, Lennon and Berbatov for the journeyman has beens such as Baros, Hendry, Melberg and Bouma. You may have Martin O'Neil, but even with he can't perform miracles.

Not 100% sure about this one. 1 goal in 17 England games! Spurs reserve striker! £9 Million??? Might be worth a punt at £3-4 million. I would rather see a young up and coming target man to give Angel some competition. In Baros, Moore and Agbonlahor we have three similar players and Defoe is no different (or better) than them. I think Mido might be a better option than Defoe. Or Nugent from Preston. However I would prefer to go for proven world class, rather than the names I have mentioned.

So Spurs are buying Mido so they have 4 good strikers??? Who are the other 3 going to be then?? Maybe they are just jealous that they have not got as much home grown British talent in their team. Moore, Whittingham, Agbonlahor, Barry, Samuel, Davis, Gardner, Ridgewell, Cahill. Looks like the premeir leagues most average club has ideas above their station again. One season of coming fifth is nothing to shout about. I think Spurs fans should compare their record with ours in the Premier League before coming on here gobbing off. Defoe who?

Would prefer Saviola to Defoe (cheaper and proven at the highest level) and then buy a target man as competition for Angel. Strike force would then be Angel, Target Man, Saviola, Baros, and this would then allow Moore & Abonglahor to be nurtured a bit more. Choices for a target man would have been Ibrahimovic or Mido but both have gone now, hope we don't get Sutton. Great to see us being linked with international players again, just hope we can tempt them.

Hey Its quiet at the lib ........... Berbatov, Keane, Mido and Defoe, they certainly frightened Bolton and 10 man Everton didn't they? Just because Jol tells you muppets that he has good players , you do not have to believe him. You are as average as us at the moment and one season of coming fifth is not going to disguise that. And as for you masteryid .... I have looked at your squad and although you do have some youngish British talent it is not a patch on ours. just because you can't get out of the shadow of North Londons big club do not try and bring your inferiority complex on to our boards.

We shouldn't be bothering with Spuds rejects like Defoe, he's too hit and miss and I can't see him integrating into O'Neill's master plan, which is of course to take us back into Europe. Well done on a good finish last season Tottenham, and you've got a good manager in Jol, so stop griping about a bench-warming striker we don't want and start concentrating on your own season eh ? Cos it ain't looking too pretty yet is it ?

Spurs fans all suffer from a condition called Hookers neck, its from spending their entire life looking up whilst arsenal jizz in there faces. one of the main effects from this causes bitterness and a general dislike to any other team, whilst remaining delusional about their current state of affairs and remain adament that tottenham hotspur are the best club in london and can often be seen when people are talking about chelsea of arsenal singing "la la la la" with there fingers in there ears.

Jmd... I think you'll find that most villa fans are currently content with their lot. As for last season, things have changed a bit since then, you may have read about it... so let's just see what happens this season. As for defoe, I think we can do better for that kind of money. Don't know why the spurs fans are so keen to hold onto him with their recent additions. Strange.

A lot of talk about Saviola, where did it come from? No disrespect, but what chance have Villa got of getting him??!! He'd only come to one of the top 5, including Spurs! We dont need him, unless we sold Defoe, but then again as I said elsewhere and even for Villa - why is no half decent team after Nugent?!! He could be the new darren bent! Available now for £3-4m! One gd yr in Prem and he'll be £10m+ as usual! Think that if we sold Defoe (which we wont) I'd like him as a replacement! As for Villa, he'd b a gr8 signing!
