Villa's Gareth Barry For England?

Villa's Gareth Barry For England?

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by No1Villan, if Gareth Barry will make the England squad under Steve McClaren. The roar from the Holte End on Wednesday was 'Barry For England' but do we all think that McClaren will bring him back into the fold?

24% think Barry will be selected.

31% said no and the remaining 45% said he should be picked but that he won't.

I'm not so sure, Villa will now enjoy an even higher profile and that should help the credentials of Gareth Barry.

I would be much more interested about reading Aston Villa's Gareth Barry for Tottenham but not for England unless it is against Moldova which is the same.

Trouble for Barry is who would he replace ? I'd love if he was picked but I doubt he'd be used.

barry is every bit as good if not better than downing so he should b in squad at least without a doubt but because downing is mclarens secret love child, barry hasnt got a chance! completley unfair because he is pure quality, anyone can see that.

you couldn't stick downing at the back like you could with Barry, and if anyone wants to question whether he wants to be at the villa, just look at his reaction when he scored.

I think Mr Lerner's agenda for Aston Villa will be to raise our profile world wide. To do this we need to be a) be successful on the pitch or b) sign a 'Beckham' to sell no 10 shirts world wide. I'd prefer plan A obviously. I believe our profile is going to rise. Now it has been a long held belief if not a fact that Aston Villa players have never had a fair go when it comes to representing England eg Brian Little for me was the biggest example of this attitude considering he was the most talented footballer of his generation in England. It will be interesting to see if there is a change in attitude toward us when our profile rises. As for Barry I still feel he has some way to go before he can truely claim to be an international. Having said this, considering some of the recent selections you could ask, Do you really need to be of that standard to play for England. Lets wait and see what the attitude toward Villa will be when we are kicking on the door of the top 4 - Dare To Dream! (And yes THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!)

We need to be successful, and that would promote Gareth's name, particularly if he personally has a good season. I think we'd all pretty much agree that under Sven he should have walked into the squad on several occasions. Be interesting to see whether Steve Mac takes Svens stance, or whether he gives Gareth another opportunity. This 'too slow' jibe that is often thrown at him is so ridiculous its untrue. Look at Bobby Moore. Enough said.
