Mathieu Berson Leaves Aston Villa

The transfers have started at Villa, all out at the moment, but at least there is some action!

According to Levante, the Spanish side have agreed the transfer of French midfielder Mathieu Berson who was bought by David O'Leary for £1.6million in 2004.

Berson joined from Nantes but was frozen out pretty much from the start and ended up making just 13 appearances for the Lions and spending last season on loan at Auxerre.

There is no official confirmation on the Villa site as yet.

shame to see him go, he could have a beena great player for us. Im sure MON will bring in better quality though, au revoir

Always liked what i saw of Berson, dont think he was given much of a chance under O'Dreary after all the hype to buy him. Hope he does well where ever he goes.

Its a shame he's going. Are they sure they dont want gavin mcann instead? And what is it with Levante and wanting the whole of the villa squad?

Damm I liked that guy. I was talking to a friend of mine and we both agreed that McCann should be the one sold not Berson
Christo
We wouldnt have got as much for McCann though - and if we want to bring in proven quality we need real money.

Not too concerned about his departure to be honest, a sensible move for both parties. Mathieu obviously wasn't a happy camper at the club, and/or at being over here in the U.K., and obviously MON has quickly assessed and addressed the situation. While admittedly we only saw Mathieu on a few occasions, he never looked a premiership quality performer to me.

Adieu, Mathieu.

Supposedly never really settled at Villa, probably best for all concerned, I expect we will have to stomach another loss on a player that has been under utilised. Anything like £1m for him and it wont be too bad
fatloser
Wonder how much we got for him. I'm a bit gutted but I guess MON must have ahad a pretty good look at him pre-season and I trust his judgement.
