Lerner Right Way - Padfield Wrong

Lerner Right Way - Padfield Wrong

People are asking me why I'm not quoting the recent articles from the press with reference to AV06.

The simple answer is I give no credence to people that conduct a takeover via the press instead of via the Boardroom and in this case Rothschild. Anyone who wants to discuss it in the forum is welcome, but despite having very loose standards as to the outrageous things I come out with ;-))) I won't give space on this site to anything that I can't take seriously. I've put two quotes below and there will be no more.

I'm also amazed at the pathetic whisper campaigns - wherever they come from - about the Lerner approach.

Lets clear this up. Randy Lerner and his advisors have done everything by the book. They have conducted themselves with great dignity and done their negotiating where it should be done. NOW that the bid is in, they will start talking details. Doesn't that sound the sort of group you'd like at Villa? You know, no more press leaks, no more Circus Villa, no more wild claims and puerile press comments?

Sounds great to me.

The rumour about a merger with any team is beyond belief. Even someone who knew nothing about football would know that can't be done, it would make no business sense.

The implication that there is no money to spend on the team is a total joke. WHEN the time is right, they will say what they are planning but there IS money to back Martin O'Neill, of course there is.

A couple of very quick quotes from Padfield: 'We are not American, and want to fly the flag.' Not American, not British either? And who wanted to employ a Dane as manager and said if another manager came in their interest would be over?

He also said: 'We have money for transfers, up to £30million in the August window if we can get the deal done quickly enough and we are confident we can. But we are more than prepared to step aside if Mr Lerner can match our £30million transfer budget inside the next 17 days.'

Errrm, WHY?

Why 17 days? What has 17 days got to do with anything?

And why

a) Does Randy Lerner have to match anything they say when he is already ahead of all the groups and
b) why would these people who are so mad keen on taking over Aston Villa move aside if Randy did give that undertaking?

I also fail to see how someone who hasn't gone through due diligence yet, in fact scrap that, hasn't even put a bid in yet, (I believe not even an indicative bid is in but could be wrong) can expect to get everything done and dusted before the transfer window closes?

I know who my money is on and I'm excited at the prospect of their arrival.

Have to agree Lerner has conducted himself immaculately during this whole affair. It's a credit to him that he came back after his initial fall out with Herbert.

STATEMENT FROM BROWNS OWNER RANDY LERNER REGARDING THE PURCHASE OF ASTON VILLA FC AUGUST 14, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE On Sunday evening, Reform Acquisitions, which is owned by Randy Lerner bid for Aston Villa FC, a Premiership Football Club in Birmingham, England. This bid was made in accordance with British takeover law under which the bid must remain outstanding for 21 days after which, should there be no superior bid, the purchase would occur. In effect, the Club is a public company and is therefore being purchased from its shareholders. gThe basis for acquiring Aston Villa is that it is a storied Club dating from the 1870fs with periods of treasured memories and glory,h said Lerner. gCurrently it faces the need for reinvestment in a variety of areas which many of its competitors have underway or have completed in recent years. The opportunity to be a part of strengthening Villafs business operations and facilities represents a broad set of challenges that Ifm eager to take on.h

I heard that Padfield guy on the radio a week or two ago, a more pompous abrupt guy you could wish to hear. Wasn't impressed with him at all! As for "Flying the flag" - who cares? Randy Lerner seems to know more about Villa than this group could ever dream of knowing and he's done his business correctly making AV06 look.well, a bit foolish really..

Could someone please put my mind at rest over this AV06 bid.( Mr Fear ? ) If they bid 5% over the Lerner bid, then it has to be put to the shareholders i believe. Does that then mean that the shareholders have a choice bewtween the two bids, at 62.6 and 70 million. Or does it mean that Randy Lerner has to match 70 million to stand any chance of taking over, and if not, the shareholders would then be forced in to accepting the AV06. I am just praying that an AV06 bid does not scupper Randy Lerner, cos i am seeing and hearing all the right things from him. The way i see it is that there would be a choice between the two bids as they stand ie 62.6 and 70 million. Either way, Doug has to now sell due to stock exchange rules. Please help as i am having sleepless nights

I accept and appreciate that Nicholas Padfield is a very learned and professional man, so why does he come across as very amateurish and unprofessional?

Even if the AV06 bid is more than 5% greater it still has to be accepted by the PLC Board. Basically, if DOUG is adamant it's Lerner, then Lerner it is. Regardless of how much AV06 bid.

Or looked at another way, only DOUG and JACK PETCHEY can scupper the Lerner bid. If they do, it will be down to greed.
