'If It's Football, It's Vital'

93% In Favour Of Lerner Bid

Vital Villa asked if you welcome the Randy Lerner bid?

A massive 93% said yes.

5% were undecided and just 2% said no.

On the strength of that poll, Eltoro sent me the suggestion that the 2% were blue noses (!!) and went on to say:

I like the 2% of blue noses who have obviously voted on the poll about Randy Lerner. Looks to me that they don't like the idea of the Mighty Villa once again being the force it was.

Well, I say to you, Karen Brady, David Sullivan, Steve Bruce, Jasper Carrot, Roy Wood, Jack Osbourne, The Bull ring, All porn magazines, your boys are going to take one hell of a beating!

Ahem, thanks Eltoro!

It certainly disproves the comment from the nosers "the tide of football in this city is turning blue" They were right Claret and Blue.

Rumour on Villa Talk that AV06 are about to wade in with a 70m bid. And there's still the shadowy Still consortium waiting in the wings. 21 days to go. It ain't over till it's over...
pongogidman
why cant this takeover just be easy, who are AV06, do thye have loads of cash to spare?
son_of_cher
is this going to be a another abramovich era! i hope not because is ruins the game and the league!
leeds-til-i-die
No It aint over yet I feel. But you just don't know what to make of the others. I think Neville was never really in the running to be fair..but AV06? I don't know..A 70 million offer with promises of 30 million immediately for O'Neill and with an apparant 10 billion wealth amonst their group. It might hotten up to beyond fever pitch..or it might be a load of hot air. Who knows?
baros10
I like the Lerner bid much more than a mysterious consortium with 10 billion. To be honsest this is more than I could have asked for in May, but with Lerner we know what we are getting. A person who can run a top Sports organization, we know he is not going to buy the whole leauge, but invest in the infrastructure of Aston Villa FC. He will make us competative with out leveraging the club and the future. As much as I like the attention, I hope that our little takeover can happen with no more interuption. But let us not forget who is incharge for the next couple of weeks!
NY Villa
I'm in agreement with you NY Villa. We know what we'll be getting with Lerner and I like the sound of the man very much. I hope AV06 go away quietly to be honest but I don't know what will happen next week..The way Randy Lerner has done his business is excellent - not through the press like the others but at the table. I'm not sure about him as Chairman - it seems a lot to run both the Browns and Aston Villa, I don't know how that will work out in terms of time commitments etc. I'm sure he's thought all this through long ago and has placed a very very strong bid in which I don't see many people worrying about.
baros10
If Lerner is Chairman he will appoint a strong GM who will report daily to him, I cant see him trying to run the Browns AVFC and MBNA all at the same time.
NY Villa
I think what we are all saying here is that the right man is more important than the most money. I was very unsure about Lerner but now we know some of his plans I'm quite confident about him and his bid. Most of all, I look at the staff he's bringing in but still maintaining continuity by keeping some of the existing staff. It looks like, on the corporate side, things will be well sorted and that can only be positive fro the playing side......no distractions and a good income. To top this, theses men are not fools and they realise that corporate sucess can only be helped by sucess on the field and that they will need to invest but do not need to do it stupidly like Abramovic. If AV06 want to come in they should show their colours and not just their money. Frankly, as long as the new owners can sustain a reasonable investment over time I am not bothered how much money they have, more what their plans are and if they will be able to generate future funds through the clubs on and off field activities. I get the feeling that Lerner and his group will excell in that department and leave the football to MON, just as it should be. My main question for AV06 is, if they are not fans, why on earth do they want to get involved in football, which as an investment is very unsure and they will be paying way over the odds to buy the club, which, if it's a consortium and not an individual and, especially if the money men wich to remein anonymouse, will give them no cudos, which is why people like Abramovic invest in football, it's all abbout reputation. So quite simpley, why?
Villain Of The North
the early reports stated he doesnt pretend to know everything about football,NFL or anything but they said he will appoint someone of the highest caliber to run/manage the team.O'Neil is the man to manage and he will prob bring in someone with football know how to be a sporting director and they will report to him and be answerable to him.So he may be more of a back seat chairman and hopefully listen to the men who know what needs done and how to do it.
sk1nner80
NY Villa, I thought he'd sold MBNA and that was where he got his money from. So it's just running The Browns and Villa at the same time then, a snap :o)
Villain Of The North
In that case, bring in GT and or Langham
Villain Of The North
There's a lot to be said for the merits of AV06, should they not just be huffing and puffing hot air. No doubt we are about to find out. Sometimes I wonder if we arent tempted to close the door on alternative bids because all we want is the takeover done and dusted as soon as possible. Having said that, I'm in no way anti-Lerner. Surely though we do need to know what alternative options there are out there, cause there wont be no going back once a deal is signed and sealed.

I do not know about anybody else but I recently bought a house. It had been on the market a while and it needed some renovation even though in the main it was in reasonable nick. I had been keeping my eye on it and was unsure of the real value. I told the estate agent to let me know if any offers were made on it. I didn't rush into buying it because it would have been the biggest purchase of my life. However the estate agent phoned me up and informed me that an offer had been made and it was well within my budget. On that basis I made a counter offer in excess of the opposing bid. I can see the similarities with events at VP. Not everything is cut and dried with the Villa. Just because Lerner made the first bid that was excepted it does not mean it is the best for our club. I admit it looks exciting and all the right noises have been made. However it would be unwise not to look at alternatives, if there are any. It may be that despite the money the main player is M'ON. It is vital that any final offer is one that he is happy with. I can honestly see him being with us for years and building a footballing dynasty to rival any that have gone before. Therefore it is essential that whichever takeover we have, it is the correct one.

Good shout villain of the north. Both Taylor and Langham know what's what and were held back by Ellis..although I think Lerner will do it his way and might see it as going back instead of forward. And I think taylor has already publically questioned the motives of the Americans?
baros10
As much as it is an exciting new era (and rival bids are good because competition is healhty) I think Ellis should still put the money up for a couple of signings b4 its too late.
Steve64k
You can't trust real estate agents voiceoftheholte. Afterall, they are in it for the comission and they'll feed you any old manure to get a bid from you.
Steve64k
Lerner's plans sound good - and sensible - on paper, and I'm sure his business sense is excellent. My worry stems from the news reports I've seen where (it seems) he is discussing tactics with (I presume) the coach on the training ground. A little too hands on? Couldn't see MON hanging around too long if he is! Maybe the US people on this site could comment on this?
Beovilla
Baros 10, I don't see that Taylor being sceptical should be any hinderance, after all, to a pragmatic business man scepcism is just a healthy regard for both negative and possitive possibilities before one has enough facts to make an informed decision.
Villain Of The North
just read on sky sports website, that they're hoping to come in with a 70m bid (AV06) why not put in a bid instead of keep going on about it, i for one will not be happy if this turns out to be another long drawn out affair, that could upset the apple cart once again, they say they have billionaires on there side, so why try to join with m.neville, just get this take over thru doug then we can all look forward to a lengthy contract for mon, and some transfer money
