Juan Pablo Angel To Stay At Villa

Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel says that he wants to stay at Villa and feels he had a rough deal last season.

In an interview with Janine Self of The Sun, he explains:

"I don`t think I was appreciated last year. It was difficult, very bad. It was not a good season for me. I was not involved, I was playing from the bench and I made only nine starts or something. I`ve been in England six years and this is my fourth manager. It is a big relief to get in someone of Martin O`Neill`s pedigree.'

The £9.5million record signing, now 30-years-old, continued

"I want to stay and work with him. There`s enthusiasm here now. I`ve always believed this club has potential to be successful but, for some reason or another, we`ve been under-achieving for so many years. Martin O`Neill is a winning manager. We`ve the ability to have a much better season than we did last year — but we have to prove it.'

He says last season was 'horrendous' but is optimistic this season will be different because the attitude in the dressing room has already changed.

"There`s already a difference and it would be nice to have a winning dressing room. O`Neill has seen potential here and he can only do good for us."

I'm not convinced by Angel anymore. At 31 I think he is only going to go downhill from now on. Cant see him returning to the form of 3 years ago when he was at his peak.

Angel has got to prove himself this season to MON or I would think he will be on his way. There is no doubt that when he is on form he is lethal but we haven’t seen that for a while. Make or break season for him I think.

He needs games he cant score if he is kept on the bench!!!! I believe with the right service he will get 20 goals this season.

Believe he would of gone this summer if it wasn't for the management change. He now has a season to prove himself to MO'N or he's a goner I think.

If O'neal can't get him to reproduce his form of two season's ago i'd give him the boot.

I'm in the JPA corner. I'm glad that it looks like he has a Villa Park future, and I'm confident that given a decent run in the side, then he'll respond with the necessary goals. Should Baros and Phillips be out of the door, then a lot of resposibility will fall on JPA's shoulders. I hope that he's up to the challenge.
