First Villa Signing Of The Summer?

Aston Villa's manager Martin O'Neill is apparently close to signing Celtic midfielder Stilian Petrov.

Petrov has been linked since O'Neill took the helm at Villa Park and didn't even make the bench for the game against Chelsea last night fuelling the speculation that his departure was imminent.

The player is rated, according a report in the Mercury online by Graham Hill, at around £5million. Fulham's Steed Malbranque is also mentioned.

Strachan is quoted as saying 'I can say that no-one will be leaving before we have got players in' but wouldn't be drawn on the links to Villa for Petrov.

The report also says David O'Leary's assistant manager Roy Aitken and fitness coach Steve McGregor have parted company with Villa and goalkeeping coach Eric Steele, currently on tour with the squad, will also leave.

I wonder if this Petrov thing is all a smokescreen to the real signing of Gerrard and Henry?

heard the Gerrard rumuor as well, also Dennis Bergkamp cloned himself at 23 so we are signing Bergkamp2 as well. Great news all the way around, things are moving apart from Doug.
NY Villa
Its looking increasingly likely that he will be signing number one. Possibly our new captain for the season ahead also. MON made Petrov skipper of the hoops when he was the Celtic boss, so it makes sense that he would do the same down here.

If so, I hope it's with Melberg's blessing as we don't want to alienate him again like O'Fool did.
Villain Of The North
petrov is a class player, easily one of the best players in scotland and can definately make the grade in the premiership.

how old is he...does anyone know? Defensive or attacking midfielder? I am having bad memories of O'deary and trying to sign the old leeds squad. Pterov on his own great but I dont want the old celtic squad thankyou please.

How many of the old Celtic brigade are going to join Martin?

It's nice that we are being linked with players again but while Doug is still around it's highly unlikely. I can picture Petrov sitting on his bed with his suitcase packed waiting on the call from MON or Lerner to say that the coast is clear.

Yeh you wish deano, but if you do sign him, he will be a good signing for you.

Want Petrov but not inspired with Lennon.
