What Has Aston Villa Got?

Before I say anything else in this article, get well soon Roy, take care of yourself first, work comes a very very long way down the list of priorities in comparison to health.

Aston Villa are now not only leadership lacking at the top of the club whilst Ellis plays some sort of....... I'll stop there.

Now the team jet off on the pre-season tour without a manager as Roy Aitken, the current caretaker manager, has had to withdraw so he can continue to recover from recent surgery to remove a tumour.

So, we have no real Chairman, just an 82-year-old called the menace of B6. We have no finance director, no CEO, no manager or assistant manager, we have no new players and we have fans, shareholders and press who have NO idea what is going on. Talk about a rudderless ship.

This is a terrible way to treat such a magnificant and mighty club.

Aikten told the official site:

'When the manager left a couple of weeks ago, I was asked to take temporary charge and I came back to work earlier than I should have. But a pre-season tour, with all it entails, is a step too far at this stage and its probably best that I leave it to people who are fully fit and able to work to full capacity.'

Adding: 'The Chairman has been very fair and backs my decision to take a back seat for a few weeks and put my own health first.'

So where exactly is this club at the moment? I tell you what, even the people 'in the know' don't have a clue. We've basically become a farce.

For the love of all things Claret & Blue Doug, STEP ASIDE and let the others get on with negotiating the takeover deal. Either that, or maybe Ellis should take on the managers role and resign from the board, lets face it, he's tried everything else.

I think a manager will be named soon
Can we change the banner at the top to say 13 managers, 1 crock and 1 goalkeeping coach and still no success - Doug Ellis For the love of all that is Claret & Blue, GO NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
No point in appealing to Doug's love of the Claret and Blue because that doesn't exist.
Steve W
Good luck Roy. You're Villa through and through. We'll be relegated this season if we're not sorted out before kick off. Then how much will the club be worth? SELL NOW DOUG. QUICK BEFORE THEY FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN
Isn't obvious whats happening .....Doug is trying to discredit the consortuims one by one....he seems to have suceeded with the neville bid ....with a good deal of fans (wrongly) oppossed to this bid in my opinion. The other consortuims are being starved of information (the AVO6 consortuim have publicly stated this)by Ellis - this deters them from making a formal bid. Ellis will then announce 'there haven't been any bids' ............and so it goes on......... Ellis will still be in charge next season at this rate............
beginning to think you could be right qKing.
The circus rolls on then..soon they'll be stopping all bets on Villa getting relegated, never mind who the new manager is...This is painful stuff. I don't think the supporters have ever been as angry and frustrated as they are now, you couldn't make this summer up. The press are guessing by the sounds of it. The Mail have looked very stupid after their exclusive a few days ago.
The club's like a circle with corners and stumbling blocks, no direction, hits lots of bends, reaches corners but still ends up going the same way, has no means to an end, and cannot change direction!
ENOUGH ALREADY! Similar sentiment expressed on 'Villa Talk' web site - but posted before the announcement of Roy Aitken (get well soon) pulling out of the tour. Surely, medically speaking, this (Roy Aitken) must have been known well before now! David Young.
this all leads to an anouncment of the new gaffer. aitken will be replaced and wont return (wrongly in my opinion)
Surely (hopefully!!) this is purely to stop any embarassment for Aitken. It would be a bit humiliating for him if a new management team go out to the tour and he has to step aside if he was on tour, at least this is a bit more dignified for him.
GOALKEEPING COACH! how funny is that?
Surely it cant get any worse. Dougs buggering up our chances of being took over and getting a decent manager, and the care taker manager we do have is crocked. Still no new players by the way and at one point we had a multi billionaire knocking on the door. The only way is up. We are, more than ever, the laughing stock of the premiership. Aston Villa FC, founding member of the football league in 1888, winners of the European Cup, how can Doug and his bunch of clowns live with what they are doing to the club and its fans.
Just hears that O neil has promised Ellis a decision by the weekend - Ellis had set a deadline of 5pm today.......Is the first crack appearing, and that O Neil is going to reject us ??? - doesn't sound promising does it ?
O'Neill is well renowned for not being rushed into anything! If Doug really has set him a deadline then I think the deal is off! Greame Souness anybody? No seriously....
What has Aston Villa got? Good question. Cahill sent the City down. We have history and tradition. Cahill sent the City down.We are one of only four English European Champions. We are the biggest club (by some considerable margin) in the midlands, with a potential 8 million customers within one hours drive away. Cahill sent the City down. The fan base is huge. The stadium is reasonable but has the potential to be the best in Enland. We have two reasonable players for every position (except right midfield/wing). Cahill sent the City down.We are only a dominant centre half, midfielder and centre forward (and right winger) from being a top four club. We are solvent and the youth set up is fantastic (by the way I 8 Ellis). Cahill sent the City down. The growth potential is bigger than any other club in England. We are a great manager and Chairman away from being one of the greatest forces in world football. Everything that is wrong at the Villa could be rectified by having a forward thinking Chairman and a great manager. It is not rocket science. Ellis out ........ new investor/chairman and O'Neil in. Then sit back and watch the return of Britains greatest team, full stadiums and the end of the North East/London domination. Bring it on. Alternatively for the muppets out there, you could just look at the negatives and do your usual trick of trying to depress us all!!!
Reading between the many lines of this farce, it seems to be Still v Lerner, with O'Neill waiting for one of them to sign on the dotted line. In the meantime, the sly old Menace of B6 continues to haggle - not in the best interests of fans (as a small shareholder I haven't heard a squeak from the board) but in his. What a nightmare. Demonstration outside Villa Park anyone ?
A big demonstration would attract press and put more pressure on..yes, come on let's do it!
Voiceoftheholte, when you 8 Doug, did you get an upset stomache? Does this also mean that Lerner has to deal with Peter Ellis as Doug has been eaten by you? If this is all true I'm sure that many of us want to congratulate you but I'm not too sure about this canabalism thing, are any of the rest of us in any danger?
Villain Of The North
I hate to be one of the negatives and depress us all voiceoftheholte but we need to see the situation for what it is so that we keep the pressure up for change. We have a goalkeeping coach running our pre season tour. I just dont want us to miss out on a fantastic owner and best manager for a very long time. I dont think dougs capable of bringing this through so thinking the worst and hoping the best. Cahill sent the city down - long live Cahill.
Nicholas Padfield "I have had no discussions with Mr Ellis at all and all of us find it surprising that no one from the club has bothered to tell us what the position is as regards whether any formal offers have been made or indeed the position as regards appointing a manager." Seems to me AV06 and Neville are being frozen out, with Still and Lerner the prefered 'bidders'. Poor old Neville, the only one to put real money on the table and still no meeting with Deadly. Like many of us Ellis is probably in awe of the American's money regardless of whether he would make the best owner of AVFC. But anybody has got to be better than the present incumbant and I'm confident it will happen eventually, all these press sources can't all be so badly wrong. Can they?
Ther are no guarantees in life, particularly in big business. Ellis can't offer that or any assurances. The takeover will have to be in place, and as yet no frim bids have been discussed. HAS DOOLALLY GOT A PLAN B?
Voiceoftheholte... think I missed it... who sent the city down?? Just thought I'd pop over here to see whats going on, and ... errr... yep!! Same as yesterday.. and Tuesday.. and Monday... and last week... STILL no manager.. or takeover... Someone let me know if anything actually does happen please?? Ta.
Oh, and voice.. reading your post again, you think you are a chairman, manager, centre half, midfielder, striker and right winger short, the rest are 'reasonable' and your ground is only ok?? And the muppets are being negative????????? Hate to see you get negative if thats positive!!!
we will not bite Lil_nose we have class. always coca-cola.
Whenever we all think, 'Well thats it. We've surely hit the lowest of the low, it has to get better from here on in', we are thrown back into the world of reality with another crisis hitting the club. If it all wasn't so damn serious it would be hilarious. You couldn't write a comedy skit to match this. Trouble is, and you can see it coming as sure as tomorrow will have 24 hrs in it, should O'Neill politely decline Dougs generous offer, deciding he couldn't work for him and the takeover situation is too unclear, then we'll really hit panic mode. Doug and Smithers will be on their knees pleading with Hoddle to come in and save the day.
Hey lil_blues_fan how little are you anyway? ...THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE
They'l all be great in goal when they get back.
Samtozer - Why thankyou sir.... nice to meet you too!! Such manners, such eloquence... such a lovely boy!
tylervilla - nice answer... I'm hoping its 'diet' coca-cola, but think we'll be drinking it for a while, so better start getting a taste for the cherry, vanilla, zero etc etc... Steve64k - fine thanks chap.. see you're still banging on about this truth being out there *********!!!
Hello little b-lose fan. You keep having a bite, Maybe Doug (out) Ellis taught me how to fish. Hey Tylervilla I have got a toilet in my house with a B-lose crest in the bottom of the pan. I have just been and had a great big dump on it ............ ain't that the truth.
Wheres the bite in that?? I think WE'RE in for a long stay in the CCC, not you lot. You'll all be fine once this current mess is sorted. The press conference later should put MON in charge (good move) and expect a full takeover to have happened in 3 months (they're not overly quick things).. Can see you in the top 8 this year.
