'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Laursen Return

Villa reserves beat Chasetown 3-0 last night thanks to goals from Sam Williams, Danny MacDonald and Stephen O'Halloran.

Even better, Martin Laursen made a successful comeback from injury and played for 45 minutes.

The 29-year-old Denmark international, who joined Villa from AC Milan two seasons ago, has seen his time at Villa Park ruined by injuries, but despite a series of career threatening set-backs, he kept fighting.

Laursen said: 'It's been hard work and it's been tough but I'm sure it was the right decision for me to stay away. It would have been depressing to watch my team-mates training every day and not being able to participate but it's good now and I'm feeling good.'
The central defender will now join the squad in the pre-season trips to Holland and Germany which starts this weekend.

Be nice when they return if this takeover situation has been resolved one way or the other, this uncertainty has to effect them and it is killing us fans!!!

i say good luck to him and hope he has a good year
mcgoo
A quality defender. Great to see him back.
pongogidman
Hope he has kept his speed. Best defender ive seen for years. Sweeping up behind Mellberg, great in the air too. If fit i think he and Cahill would be great.
trinityroj
was he quick to begin with? I remember that he was good positioning but his pace let him down, but then again it was a very long time ago i last saw him play. Mellberg and Cahill for me.
tylervilla
he had a great came against bolten befor he got injured. lets hope we see more of them

How do I become a vital member??????THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

If he can stay fit, him and Mellberg could forge a great partnership and we can break Cahil in a little more gently.

Yes I agree, with bouma at left back and hughes at right back ...very solid We need creativity me thinks ... THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE.....send moulder to investigate the UFO at villa park (Unwanted Farting Oldgit)

4th choice for me now, even when fit. He has a lot of hard work to do to justify a place in the starting XI after 2 years of milking the club dry.

Where did the visitors drop Laursen off...on some lonely highway...he walks with a limp now... will he ever be that same human again?....THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE

Any extra defender will be great, I wish him luck but I am skeptical. But I would rather have him with the money spent than Owen for 17 mil!
NY Villa
Only seen him a couple of times including a 5-1 hiding at Spurs. He was shocking but I wouldn't judge him on that. But it will still be a long way back for him after hardly playing the last few years
Steve W
Still got a long way to go, but at least the early signs are that he's getting there.
glensider
I dont think he should ever be a first team regular again. All the best defences have a regular partnership and the likelyhood is that he will break down again thus never giving us a chance of creating a defensive partnership. I'd go with mellberg and Cahill with Ridge 3rd choice followed by Laursen
DeanoVilla
I saw him partner Mellberg at Charlton two years ago , before he got his original injury, they were shocking, and I beg to differ with trinityroj, pace was not something he showed in abundance that night.

We need him back to his best

If he's good enough for AC Milan.......
