Milner £1m? Is It April Fools Day?
I thought it was April fools day yesterday when I read online that the Daily Star were linking Villa to a 'cheeky £1million bid' for Newcastle United's midfielder James Millner. Milner is currently on a season long loan to Villa in a deal that saw Nobby Solano return to St James Park. O'Leary had already stated quite clearly last week that he didn't believe that Newcastle would be looking to sell the player and also added Milner was an 'outstanding talent'. So why such a daft story? If the report read £5million, I'd give it some credence and that is the sort of bid Aston Villa SHOULD be putting to keep this player. He has been an integral part of the team this year and at times one of the only players who looks like he could give a damn.
The report suggested that Milner was out of favour at Newcastle following multi million arrivals but it doesn't seem to take into account that Milner himself was a multi million pound arrival when Newcastle bought him from Leeds for £3.6million.
Andy Ferguson of Vital Football's Newcastle site said: 'Well I'm sure I can save Mr O'Leary a phone call, but where did the story come from? There is no doubting Milner's potential and, according to Villa fans, at times this season he has been outstanding. All the more reason for the price on his head to rise.' And his title summed the report up perfectly as he called it 'Not Worth Talking About', although now I'm talking about it, I guess I'm contradicting him!
