No Transfer Request From Barry

Great, more good news.

Gareth Barry it seems has not handed in a transfer request, despite reports saying the Villa midfielder wanted out of Villa Park.

Villa have already turned down a bid from Portsmouth and although Spurs manager Martin Jol is said to be interested, it is thought the manager-less (and leadership less!) club aren't willing to allow him to go.

Caretaker boss Roy Aitken said: 'I haven't spoken to Gareth about wanting to leave, but he has shown a commitment to the club which is first-class. He's virtually played every minute of pre-season and he's a joy to work with. I wouldn't be surprised if there were teams looking at Gareth, but he hasn't rocked the boat with me.'

Christo - why would he want to stay at Villa instead of Portsmouth?? Pompey finished ONE place below you last year, and are spending money and building for next season. What are Villa doing?? Not a fat lot except ******ing about whos going to buy the club, whos the next manager etc etc etc...

Guys, Whats a Pompy
Steve64k
A couple of points to make fellas. lil_blues_fan are you lost? This is a Premiership site. The fizzy pop one is elsewhere. Steve64k makes a great point ........ what is a Pompey? I think it is Poor Opposition Made Poorer Every Year! As for Barry going anywhere there are a couple of things that will determine this. Spurs need a left sided midfielder but if Carrick is worth £18 million then Barry is worth at least £20million. We know they have the money so to sell him for the £5 or £6 million mentioned would be ridiculous. However the Barry leaving stories surfaced when Sven was linked with the managers job. Barry and Sven had a falling out just after Sven got the England job and if he had taken over as manager, then he would have been the first one out. With MON looking likely to take over all the players will want to stay. Dare I say it but with MON and new financial backers in, Ellis out and hopefully 3 or 4 quality additions to the squad, next season could see Villa Park full to the rafters watching exciting footy. Bring it on.

mcgoo sorry mate but Spurs wouldn't pay more than between about 2-3m for Barry. Best off keeping hold of him.

Gareth's frustration is probably common to all members of the playing staff. The uncetainty allied to the lack of direction and ambition that the club has been showing is bound to unsettle the players. Hopefully a new manager. plus we trust, new owners and a new board, will convince Gareth that staying at VP will offer him the same opportunities to challenge and compete, that he will find elsewhere.
