'If It's Football, It's Vital'

's or $'s? It Doesn't Matter

Dennis Mortimer has spoken of Aston Villa and said that 'the next Aston Villa manager has got to be Martin O'Neill.'

In an article for The Guardian: Click Here he goes on to say:

'There's something about Martin that players respect. He gets the most out of them, which he proved at Leicester and Celtic, and he's got an excellent track record. I know you can say the same about Sven at club level but I'm not convinced he would be well received by the fans after his time with England. Villa supporters will only feel secure by having Martin O'Neill in charge.'

'It might well need a takeover for that to happen. It certainly doesn't matter whether the money behind the new owner is pounds or dollars because the club need fresh blood. It looks as though the American billionaire Randy Lerner wasn't too keen after speaking to Doug Ellis, which is no surprise. The Villa chairman doesn't want to relinquish control. His big worry is that once he's gone he's going to be forgotten very quickly because someone else will come in, be successful and expose how poor a job he has done.'

What a great point!!! For the rest of the article, Click Here

He also says that Doug's attitude is 'selfish' and questions where the money came from for Villa saying it wasn't from Ellis. He also points out that the Blues board have at least put their hands in their pockets.

If Doug had done the same over the years, I think he'd have found far less criticism. So how about now selling up and leaving a nice legacy by buying us an attacking midfielder with some (not all, just some) of the proceeds from the major shareholding he has - you know, the one he promised he would never want or take?

Mortimer is spot on, Doug is selfish and he needs to let go.

My worry is if nothing happens, then people will reaally start to give in to apathy

He's forgotton that buying a club doesn't make you an owner but a caretaker for future fans and succses

Dennis was a leader out on the pitch, and no one can deny that he's very definitely attempted to be a leader in the fight to remove the old boy. Well said Dennis. Keep up the fight, we need all the help thats out there, willing and able. Involvement from ex-Villa Park legends can only help the cause.
