Delaney Praises The Youth

Mark Delaney played a full 90-minutes in Villa's reserve game 2-0 win against Chesterfield last night. Delaney was impressed with the youthful set up as Scott Bridges scored a brace to secure the win.

Delaney said of Bridges: 'I said to him afterwards that I've worn that No2 shirt for seven or eight years, but I've never hit a ball like that. He did well. He's one of the good young lads we've got.'

Adding on the official site:

'I was pleased to get through 90 minutes. It was obviously a disappointing time towards the end of last season, so it was nice to get back and get 90 minutes under my belt. We had a lot of young lads playing last night and I was pleased for them. It was a big test against a League One side, so that was another step up from reserve football.'

'I've always been impressed with the kids here. I'm a big believer in what Sid, Tony and Kev are doing. We saw how good they are last night. A young Villa side beat a League One side just a couple of weeks away from the start of the season. To produce a performance like that, with a couple of goals and a clean sheet, was a credit to the lads.'

Official site said the Twins had a good game and "looked lively". Maybe now he'll get a chance in the first team. Good to see Delaney back

This is so bitter sweet, I am so excited for the season to see how we play and perform and watch the kids get better. Yet I can not enjoy it because of the Chairman who I detest.

Yes, it is good to see Delaney get a full game under his belt. Got a feeling we could well be turning to him before the season is too old. Good reports on Djemba-Djemba too. Both he and Berson deserve an opportunity to tie down a first team place.

Not to get too carried away but three games played 9 goals scored and none conceded... Watch out Arse dont want to ***** on your Emirates parade now do we. Whispers "Roy Aitkens Claret and Blue army" and retreats for more medication into the darkened corner of the room

Glad to see he's fit again even if it won't last long with his luck. The youth teams the one bright hope for villa.
