'If It's Football, It's Vital'

5-0 And Ellis Out Chants

Villa beat Walsall 5-0 in a pre-season friendly rout! Luke Moore and Gabriel Agbonlahor scored two, with Peter Whittingham adding to the tally with an absolute belter.

So, no hangover from the O'Leary departure then?!

And happily, the great score didn't stop the Villa faithful from chanting 'We want Ellis out' before, during and after the game.

Doug Ellis, take note, accept one of the bids - and bids there are - and step aside, the fans haven't fallen for the manager-merry-go-round this time.

Caretaker manager Roy Aitken said: 'I asked the boys to give me a response, and they gave me a good quality performance. They're a great group to work with, and in being in charge at the moment it was pleasing they gave me that kind of display, as well as for themselves, the club and the fans. But after what has happened over the past week, we needed that, and their attitude was first class.'

'I told the players to be professional and concentrate on the job in hand, and clearly it didn't affect the players because you only have to look at the performance. The fans are going to be vocal anyway, and that's up to them. But they also got behind the team because they were cheering the boys.'

Aitken has thrown his hat into the ring for the job permanently, but I can't see him having much success, a big name is required at a big club.

'At the end of the day it's a great job and a great club with a fantastic history. The job doesn't faze me at all because I've been there and done it and I know what it's all about. After three years here I know this club, I get on well with the players and I love the responsibility and being in charge, but it's in the hands of the board.'

From what I saw on Sky Sports the players played like a huge weight was off their sholders (O'Dreary, I still pinch myself everytime I think of his departure) I know it is only a friendly but body language never lies. Can anyone give me the line up for last night? Great to see Moore back.

According to an article in the Times, under stock market regulations, Doug can't just say that there has been interest in order to take the heat off himself, there does HAVE to be genuine interest, although I'm sure the timing of the announcement was aimed at doing that. However, if there is interest hopefully it will be firmed up with an offer so Doug has no more excuses
