Alan Curbishley Out Of The Race

Reports today say that Alan Curbishley is out of the race for the Villa hot seat, as we predicted a few days ago.

The former Charlton boss had said he wanted a year out of football so it was always strange to see the bookies give him odds ranging from evens to 2/1 on.

Curbs is on his way for an extended holiday in New Zealand and has no intention of taking the Villa Park hot seat (or should that be revolving seat?)

Curbs told the Daily Mail:

"I did 15 years without a break at Charlton and I feel I have to recharge my batteries fully. Obviously, I would have come back early if I'd been given the chance to manage England. But I didn't get that chance and so I've decided it is best to wait until October and take my time over a return."

It could be the first of a few managers ruling themselves out. Will be gutted if O'Neill does, but i'm expecting him to. I've got a horrible, horrible feeling that it'll be Glenn Hoddle. it doesn't bear thinking about!

Until there's an actual official quote attributed to Curbishley, I wouldn't read too much into the media reports. Speculation will be the name of the game for the next few days, by which time you would imagine the board would have a definite list of potential candidates, and we should all be aware by then as to who is interested and in the race, and who isnt. No, you're right DougInABox, the thought of Glen Hoddle is enough to give us all sleepless nights.

I'm now reading a direct quote from Curbishley saying that he wants/needs to take a complete break from the game, and isnt looking to return until October at the earliest.

Yeah read the same one, but again, like you say it could all be paper talk and old quotes which they bring out again to make a story

He's a boring sod. New Zealand will suit him.

yeah he can be droll, but new zealand is not. O'Neil for me , I so hope it is not Glenn Hoddle, but do not rule out Brian Little, with Gordon Cowans as his assistant.

Ellis will go for the cheapest option. Caretaker until Christmas, then try for a new manager if a take over appears. Glen Hoddle would cause uproar - Doug wouldn't be that stupid!?!? At least all the protests are being heard now, great to see some balanced reporting by the BBC & Sky.
