Barry No Go For 'Arry

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Pompey tried and failed to lure Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry to Portsmouth.

Harry told Sky Sports:

'Gareth Barry is a talented player and we placed a bid with Aston Villa. They turned it down because he is someone they want to keep.'

Adding, with the departure of our manager: ''I don't know if the situation will be different now David O'Leary has been sacked.'

I can confirm the situation hasn't altered 'Arry, Barry is not for sale!

Reports suggest that the left sided midfielder attracted a £4.5million bid. Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked to Barry several times.

Barry is the type of player we need to keep hold off. Quite frankly I thought the money being offered by Portsmouth was insulting.

Agreed, thought it was him that kept us up last season, any new manager would surely view Barry as a possible captain, or at least as a must keep?
The Fear
Sell Barry and you've sold your soul!
merlin
Come on guys, you know you wanna sell him really. Pretty Please lol
POMPEYMEV
'Arry, god bless him, he'll try and buy anyone. Good for you holding on to Barry.

Every player has his price, Pompey are on the up, Villa will soon follow Brum & Baggies.

Once the Russians cotton on to Harry the club will not be on the up. Directors of football will be in and the dodgy one will be off

Good player and well worth a go, so no wonder 'arry added him to his shopping list. He's gradually chalking them all off, saddly none are joining...

He's underachieved at Villa for a while and is one of those players I think is stuck in a comfort zone on the club (and his best position is left back anyway). I don't think selling up is a bad thing for 5m.

As things stand right now, as a club we need to politely tell anyone who comes in for any of our lads, to go forth and multiply. The squad is small enough as it is, and Ellis is obviously not going to sanction any incoming new faces until a new manager is confirmed. We need to keep them all, particularly Gareth.
glensider
Agreed glensider. We have a squad short of players and Gareth Barry could play a vital role in developing the younger players coming through, because he's been there and done it. He's been a good servant for Villa and is a regular performer. I also see him as a future captain, although hopefully the first thing the new manager does is bring in a proven, vocal leader on the pitch
