Little Support For Little

Vital Villa asked whether Brian Little should return to Aston Villa as manager.

61% said he shouldn't and that Martin O'Neil HAS to be hired.
21% said with Doug in charge, no one will succeed.
6% warned that managers should not return.
9% said he should return but only with John Gregory who was Little's second in command for a good part of his tenure at Villa and it all seemed to go wrong after JG left for the Wycombe job.
Just 3% said yes.

Villa legend Dennis Mortimer was on Five Live last night and made an impassioned argument for Villa to rid the club of Ellis and to look to the future.

He agreed that whilst Ellis was in charge, the big names won't be daft enough to come but said that Doug should try to bring in Martin O'Neil as his parting shot and then leave Villa to a more dynamic and capable board.

On O'Neil, Mortimer said: 'Martin has a fantastic record and is a superb motivator. He has done well wherever he has been and would be ideal for Villa right now.'

I think you should get Steve Bruce...lol

O'Neill is exactly the sort of manager we need and the complete opposite to O'Leary. However, with Ellis at the helm, it remains to be seen whether we can choose a manager or whether we just have to accept whoever is willing to take the job on. I fear the latter

Will be very interesting to see who comes in and IF Doug is the one bringing him in. I can't see why, with all this talk of takeovers, why anyone in a job already would come and risk having to leave again so quickly (if new lot want their own man).
The Fear
It's unlikely a new board would want to get rid of a brand new manager (potentially suicidal of them to try) so I don't think that argument washes with me really (ie who in their right mind would come in and sack Martin O'Niel?!). We all agree Ellis and the others need to go. I just think that it's naive and a bit dangerous to wish them all gone without anybody at all to take over their place. I urge him to sell up as soon as he can and drop the price he wants.. Brian Little is a nice guy..but he hasn't the personality to motivate this set of players or achieve anymore than O'Leary did. I think we'd be relegated with him in charge. The only way is to hope one of the big names - such as O'Niel is somehow tempted to take it on board and that Ellis backs him as his parting shot to the club. I don't think going back is a bad thing in itself. Taylor might have turned things around to some degree had he have had the right backing and brought in his own men..he put his balls on the line with Crouch for example and had the last laugh on that one.

The problem right now is going to be attracting a proven manager of any calibre, what with the club in the total mess its in, and with Ellis and his cronies still running the operation. I personally cant imagine O'Neil being even remotely interested in the position, and in truth, after he's been passed over who else is there out there? Even so, Brian Little is not the answer.
